House Training Dog

What You Should Know About Crate Training - One Of The Most Effective Ways Of House Training Any Puppy Or Dog

Crate training is one of the most effective ways of house training any puppy or dog.  Crate training is very efficient, and very effective, since it uses the natural instinct of the dog to achieve the desired result of a clean house and a well trained dog.

The concept behind crate training is that a dog naturally strives to avoid soiling the area where it eats and sleeps.  By placing the dog in the crate, this instinct is enhanced.  The dog will come to see the crate as its den, and it will try to avoid soiling its den.

The key to successful crate training for a puppy or an older dog, as with other forms of dog training, is to establish a good routine.  This routine will enhance the ability of the dog to do its business in the right place, and avoid eliminating in the wrong place.  It is important to shower the dog with praise each and every time it eliminates in the established toilet area, and not to express frustration or anger when the dog makes a mistake.

It is important to confine the dog or puppy to a small part of the house, generally one puppy proofed room, when you are not at home.  The room should contain a soft bed, fresh water and some favorite toys to prevent the dog from becoming bored and frustrated.

Crate training is different from confining the dog to one room, however.  With crate training, the puppy or dog is confined to a crate when unsupervised.  The idea is that the dog will think of this crate as its home, and not want to soil is home.

When crate training, it is important to remove the dog from the crate as soon as possible after returning home, and to take the dog promptly to the previously established toilet area.  When the dog does its business in this toilet area, be sure to provide lots of praise and treats.  It is important that the dog learn to associate proper toilet procedures with good things like treats and toys.

It is important to never leave the dog in its crate for long periods of time, as this will confuse the dog and force it to soil its sleeping area.  The crate is simply a tool, and it should not be abused by leaving the dog in it for extended periods of time.  If the dog is left in the crate for too long, it could set back the training program by weeks if not months.

The dog should only be confined to the crate when you are at home.  Except for nighttime, the dog should be given the opportunity to relieve itself every 45 minutes or so.  Each time the dog is taken out, it should be put on a leash and immediately taken outside.  Once outside the house, the dog should be given three to five minutes to do its business.  If the dog does not eliminate in this time period, it should be immediately returned to the create.

If the dog does its business during the set time period, it should be rewarded with praise, food, play, affection and either an extended walk or a period of play inside or outside the home.

During the crate training period, it is important to keep a daily diary of when the dog does its business each day.  If the dog is on a regular feeding schedule, the toilet schedule should be consistent as well.  Having a good idea of when the dog needs to eliminate each day will be a big help during the house training process.  After the dog has used his established toilet area, you will be able to give the dog free run of the house to play and enjoy himself.

Dealing with accidents during crate training

It is very important to not punish the puppy or dog when it makes a mistake or has an accident during the crate training process.  If there has been an accident, simply clean it up.  Accidents during house training mean that you have provided the dog with unsupervised access to the house too quickly.

The dog should not be allowed unsupervised access to the home until you can trust her bowel and bladder habits.  If mistakes do occur, it is best to go back to crate training.  Taking a couple of steps back will help move the house training process along, while moving too quickly could set things back.

Signing Up For Dog Obedience Classes: Some Things To Remember

Thinking about getting a new puppy or dog? If you are, then you might want to consider signing up for dog obedience classes, especially if you are a first-time dog owner at that. It's fun to have a dog or puppy around, but that is if the one you got has good manners. Because if not, you might regret getting one in the first place.

So, when you bring home your new pet, make sure that you put enrolling in dog obedience classes on top of your priority to-do list. However, since there are lots of dog obedience schools offering this kind of classes, you must be keen in choosing the one that meets your requirements. So, when signing up for dog obedience classes, here are some things to remember.

First, look into the reputation of the dog obedience school offering dog training classes. Of course, the more popular the school is, the more reliable it could be. Try to ask from your neighbors for suggestions. Also, you can talk to friends, colleagues, and relatives who have already tried dog obedience classes for their pets. But the most reliable recommendation that you can get is from your local veterinarian. He/she knows where dogs can be trained well in your area, so check out the name he/she recommends.

Now, if you don't anyone who can recommend you a reputable dog school, you can always rely on the Internet for information. Some dog obedience schools have already conquered the web to reach more potential clients. So, start doing your research online and check on the school's feedbacks to know whether their services are good or not.

Next, see whether the trainers comprising the school have sincere love and attachment to dogs. This is a little difficult to determine because anybody can claim that he loves dogs and enjoys training them. So, how to know this? Try to observe the classes first. For example, if you have a friend who has a dog enrolled in one, you can always join them during sessions and note your observations. If the qualities of the trainer meet your requirements, then consider that school on top of your list.

And lastly, of course, you have to consider the cost of signing up in a dog obedience class. If your dog is a high-breed, the cost of getting one may already be high enough, much more if you start buying dog foods and bringing it to a veterinarian for some check-ups. So, ask yourself, can you still afford the cost that goes with training your dog or puppy? Before signing up, make sure that you inquire about this first because you might end up quitting the course just because you run out of budget.

So there you go. Now that you know all these, you're off to getting the right dog obedience classes for you and your pet. Take note that a dog obedience class can very much help you teach your new dog some basic commands like sit, stay, come, and down. Once your pet learns all these, you will have more control over it during social events.

So, never underestimate the significance of these classes for you and your dog.

Dog Behavior Problem

[simpleaffiliate source="chitika" results="0"][/simpleaffiliate]
dog behavior problem
In need of some tips to stop my dogs behavior problems?

I'm having a tough time with leash training my dog. What has worked for you? Can you recommend any resources?

When you start leash training your dog one problem that you will run into is that your dog is not going to like it at all. You will have to spend a good deal of time getting the dog used to the Gentle Leader. It will also appear that your dog is wearing a muzzle. This might give the impression that your dog is aggressive.

But once the dog is used to the Gentle Leader, you will find that the walks are much easier and enjoyable.

Our Love of Dogs - Researching on Dog Breeds and a Look at Puppies

First, you should know that a dog is for life, it is not a toy or a clothing accessory; it's a living creature that when shown love can give back unconditional love. The decision to adopt a dog should be treated with the same careful attention that you would use if you were deciding where to live, to have children, or whether or not to get married. A dog is man's best friend even when the man is a soldier.

Dogs are pack animals and like to be around humans. Cats can also bond with their owners, but they tend to be more territorial in your home. Dogs protect you day and night and will never turn against you, but can if you treat them bad they will do the same thing to you. You should also understand that dogs can't hunt for food, so they depend on the owner to give them food. So please try and feed them at list twice a day.

Researching On Dog Breeds

Research the breeds and choose a breed that matches your lifestyle. Spending a $1000 on a puppy may be a shock at first but if it is healthy, intelligent and guaranteed free of defects, and then it is worth every penny. When researching on the different kinds of breeds take a long hard look at your life and don't forget, that cute little puppy does grow up to be an adult dog. But never adopt a puppy or adult dog solely on looks, research dog training thoroughly and ask yourself if you are up to the task.

When researching your dog's breed, include the history and original purpose so you can understand the dog's behavior. It's no secret that some dogs can show dog intolerance when challenged, so knowing the ins and outs of canine behavior will be your biggest help in enjoying great success with your pet.

The Puppies

Puppies and dogs bring an atmosphere of love into the house and in many cases, promote emotional well-being and even physical healing to people who may be experiencing an ailment. Puppies have no sense of correct behavior, so they offer a million things you could correct. And one amazing thing about them is that they can hold their bladders for 4 or 5 hours. They also have ultra sharp "milk teeth" and toenails and often teethe on and scratch children, resulting in unintentional injury to the child. So make sure you keep an eye on your child when around puppies.

Young dogs and even older dogs of active breeds require lots of exercise every day or behavioral problems will arise. So you should try and take a walk with them every now and then to keep them happy and they will give you happiness in return.

Dog Obedience Training

dog obedience training
How much does dog obedience training typically cost for a puppy?

Obedience dog training typically cost from $40.00 to $70.00 dollars for a set of classes. Remember, you get what you pay for. Also, when choosing an Obedience Training class go sit in the class, without your dog, a couple of times before you sign up. If it's a reputable school they will let you sit in and watch. If they don't let you sit and watch then look for another class. AKC.com has a list of obedience training classes. Make sure the person that is teaching the class is legitimate and knows what they are doing.

Good luck.

Dog Potty Training Aids

Dog housebreaking aids... does these works?

im planning to buy one of these... have anyone tried to use these to potty train a dog?... it it really effective as it claims to be?...

That depends on what kind of housebreaking aid you are referring to. I use 'piddle pads', which have a natural enzyme that attract dogs to go to the bathroom there. They work wonderfully for all three of my dogs, from my chihuahua to my english mastiff. They have instructions for how to use them on the bag, and I haven't had an 'accident' in ages.

A quick warning, if you have a small breed dog. They are notoriously difficult to housebreak, so patience and diligence will be needed. Good luck!

Dog Aggression

dog aggression

American Bulldog – Dealing with Dog Aggression

Dog aggression is an encompassing term that refers to a dog's propensity to behave more aggressively than is normal. Dog aggression as a problem can be developed as the dog is growing up. Although there are several problems that dogs may develop, dog aggression is one of the most significant problems that can affect your pet. Although all dogs will display aggression from time to time, it being a common behavior among canines, abnormal dog aggression is still a problem that needs to be treated. If not, your dog's aggressive behavior can be a huge disadvantage. The effects of dog aggression are varied, but all of them are nothing short of destructive.

What Causes Dog Aggression?

A lot of factors can cause dog aggression. Some cases of dog aggression can be hereditary, which brings to the fore the importance of looking into a dog's family history before adopting it as a pet. Also, you might want to get a dog of a breed that is less sensitive to dog aggression. There are three types of dog aggression, and some of these types may encompass other problems such as noise and thunderstorm phobias. The differentiation lies primarily on what triggers the aggressive behavior. The first type of dog aggression is when the dog displays aggressive behavior as a response to anger, or as a way to dominate over an unfamiliar person or event that it automatically interprets as a threat. Dog aggression as a result of fear can also occur in dogs when they are faced with something that is strange and scary for them. The third type of dog aggression is milder, and in some ways, positive, because it springs from a need to protect their surroundings. Other than these, dog aggression can also be caused by other factors such as a traumatic experience, a phobia, and even medical illnesses.

How Do You Deal with Dog Aggression?

Overly aggressive dogs are very hard to handle. If you are a first time dog owner, or you have a new puppy, it is important to prevent dog aggression before it develops by training your dog to socialize. However, since there are several possible causes of dog aggression, the problem may still arise when the dog is already grown up. In such cases, you have to manage dog aggression nonetheless. Treating dog aggression is dependent on determining the true cause of the dog's aggressive behavior. If your dog is displaying exccessive aggression, your first step should be to bring it to a veterinarian and have its condition diagnosed. Most cases of aggressive behavior in dogs can be corrected through behavioral modification. Professional dog trainers can also help you come up with a treatment for your aggressive dog. If your dog has dog aggression problems, your commitment to helping it overcome the behavioral problem is necessary.

Dog Training Problems

dog training problems
my dog has potty training problems?

when im not around my dog she just go into the living room and goes to the bathroom what do i do to teach her to stop?

Both of the other answers I saw look good...keep your dog with you at all times when you're home for a while(hooking her leash to your belt loop can help). Keep a close eye on her and if she starts to sniff around, take her out. Give her a treat as soon as she goes potty outside, NOT when she gets back in the house. Use blacklight to find all the "problem areas" on your carpet, and an enzymatic cleaner to eliminate them. When you're not home, she should be in a kennel, large enough for her to stand up, turn around, and lie down. Too big and she may just potty in one area and sleep in another. Do not put food and water in the kennel with her, or she may need to go while you're gone. You could also put a child gate up to block off the living room if possible, and all else fails. Good luck and give her a hug for me!

Dog Obedience Training to Solve Dog Behavior Problems

As much as we love dogs, there are times when they can really drive us crazy. Usually this is simply because there are some behavior problems such as barking, begging, and destructiveness. For many, life would be perfect if their dog would curb their behavior problems and really start behaving most of the time. Unfortunately, a dog will never curb his own behaviors and it is up to the owner to take some time for dog obedience training.

Surprisingly, it can be very easy to solve a dog behavior problem with training and in many cases the training should be started with the owner. That’s right, I said it. Usually, when a dog has behavior problems, it has nothing to do with the dog obedience training that the owner took part in. What it does have to do with is whether the owner made some of the common mistakes when they were training their dog. One of the biggest mistakes that many owners make when it comes to dog obedience training is that they stop training once their dog reaches a certain level. While the dog is trained, they will quickly forget or ignore commands that are not used on a regular basis.

This in turn leads towards behavior problems such as barking and chewing. Instead of stopping training, it is important that an owner spends a few times every week with dog obedience training. This will not only reinforce the established training but it will also give the dog something to do and will prevent many problems caused by boredom or under stimulation, such as chewing. If your dog has some behavior problems, it is time to start dog obedience training, whether it is for the first time or again. The first step is to re-establish those household rules that your dog may have broken. Don’t allow your dog on the furniture and correct him when he is begging.

This can be done simply by distracting the dog from the behavior or removing him from the room. Correct the bad behaviors in a positive manner and praise the dog when he is doing a good behavior. In addition to establishing rules, it is time to break out the basics of dog obedience training. One activity that is often encouraged when a dog is participating in a negative behavior is to take your dog aside and begin “puppy pushups.” This is actually when you put your dog in a sit, then down into a lying position, back into a sit and up into a stand. Give the command for each step and reward the dog for every step if the dog obedience training is still fresh.

This is a great way to expel unwanted energy and it really gets the dog focusing on you and not on a negative behavior. It also provides time to reinforce training and is an excellent way to move onto the next areas of dog obedience training. While puppy exercises and setting rules is important, it is also important to teach your dog a “no” command. Choose a command that is fast and easy to say and also one that cannot be mistaken for a different command. When your dog is engaged in a negative behavior, simply clap your hands or make a loud noise to disrupt the behavior and then give a firm “no.” Don’t scold or punish the dog but display your displeasure through your voice. Using the techniques that you would use in dog obedience training will quickly correct many behavior problems that arise and you will quickly see the benefit of continuously training your dog on a daily or weekly basis.

bernese mountain dog training
Is it too late to start carte training?

My puppy is 6 months old and were having a little trouble house training him. Although he is ok most day he does have the odd accident.

He is at the moment confined in a small kitchen and does sometime whine when in there.

If you think a crate would be ok what size should i be looking at as he is a large puppy (bernese mountain dog).

Since he's a large pup i would get a large crate with a divider....put the divider in and as he grows you'll end up having to take it out....but he should only have enough room to comfortably stand up and turn around and lay down. Its not too late....Good luck :)

Private Dog Training

[simpleaffiliate source="chitika" results="0"][/simpleaffiliate]
private dog training
Is private or group training best for my boxer puppy?

I have a 7 month old boxer puppy that is extremely hyper. She goes crazy when she sees another dog or person and starts to jump all over them and I can barely control her. I was just wondering which type of dog training would best fit her temperment. I am afraid that she will betoo distracted in a group training class and will try to jump all over the other people and puppies there...
Wow, awesome answers you guys! I really appreciate your help and I have decided to go ahead and do the group classes as recommended. Thanks again!

First, I'd start with private training. That allows you to become a better handler.

Second, after you've done private training, I'd definitely look at a group class. That's because your boxer is going to have to learn how to be around other dogs (and you'll need to learn to management it).

Third, get a copy of Leslie McDevitt's "Control Unleashed." While it's written with agility competition in mind, the focus is on reactive dogs (ie: your dog). It is a series of practical and hands-on activities you can do with your dog in every-day life and settings to manage this behavior. For instance, there is a game called "Look at That" that sounds like it would be perfect for your Boxer. And I know what I'm talking about--this is because the dog I have now is reactive. We took a CU course based on Leslie's book and I read her book first. It made a HUGE difference for us.

Dog Agility Training Tips

The question is just who needs dog agility training? Isn't it true that dogs are just naturally fit and agile, able to run, jump, chase Frisbees and balls.

The simple fact is that dogs are naturally gifted

athletes by their very nature. Most dogs have very muscular bodies in proportion to their weight. Because of this they are able to run very fast, jump high (you ought to see Mandy, our German Sheppard), and perform many types of spectacular stunts. The fact is, however, that dog agility training involves more than just training a dog to run or jump.

Dog agility training involves teaching your dog how to perform particular stunts and tasks on your command. It may include improving their time over an obstacle course. You can also teach them how to perform certain stunts in a special manner.

The type of dog agility training to which I refer would typically apply to show dogs. Show dogs need to run, jump or keep a certain pace according to to the show's requirements. Besides that, those dogs also need to keep in step with their owner or trainer. They have to be able to follow an obstacle course in a specific order.

Your dog being able to learn how to perform all these things is only half the experience. Your dog needs to learn how to do these skills in a certain way, at a specific speed and when give a hand signal or a vocal command.

It is a pleasure to observe dogs that have undergone dog agility training. Before you embark on training your pet this way or consider enrolling them into a school for such training you should stop and consider certain things.

First, many schools that specialize in this type of training will only accept dogs that are at least 18 months old. There is a good reason for this. Younger dogs are still growing. If you try to force them to learn advanced or difficult tricks or routines, it is possible that you will stunt their growth or cause some long term damage.

The second thing is that it is important to keep the dog's physical makeup in mind. Obviously, small breed dogs with their shorter legs cannot always perform jumps. Larger dogs, on the other hand, may have difficulty with tunnels. When you find a good school that provides dog agility training, they will take all of this into account. A good school will provide a curriculum that is appropriate to your dog's breed and size. It is important for owner's attemptimg to train their own dogs to take this same factors into consideration.

It is a common mistake to assume that dog agility training includes punishment for your dog when they do not perform as expected. Many experts say otherwise. It is much more effective to reward your dog when it performs well. Different trainers use various methods when training dogs. You can use clickers, treats or positive reenforcement for training your dog. Do your research and discover which method appeals to you. Keep in mind that dog agility training should be fun for both the dog and the owner. Dog training should not be a chore or a trauma for either one of you.

Keep in mind that not all dogs will respond in the same way to dog agility training. The plain truth of it is that some breeds are simply too skittish or hype to respond to commands. It is important that you do not allow your expectations to spoil your friendship with your dog.

Feline Behavioral Problems

Feline Problems Of Our Fuzzy Friends From The Cat World

The word feline is synonymous with grace, agility, beauty, and aloofness. A perfect description of the beautiful cat. Why are we so drawn to them? Is it because we admire their qualities? I believe we are intrigued with them and willing to put up with any cat problems they bring because, though they may enjoy our company, the truth is, we are not their first priority! They are their first priority, and we find that quality admirable is an odd sort of way. Maybe because we humans are called selfish when we put ourselves first, but we secretly always want to!

Well the truth is we love our cats and we are their servants, at least in their minds, and I don't think we're going to change it any time soon, so best to just surrender!

So as the servant of the cat we must pay attention to all of their needs. First and foremost any feline health problems that arise.

*Urinary problems

*Feline breathing problems, causes and solutions

*Feline skin problems

*Canine problems - just kidding! However dogs can be a problem for cats!

Besides common health issues, you may find instances of cat problems arising such as biting or scratching, the desire to bring dead rodents or birds into the house, and the sometimes demanding not stop loud meowing, and complaining that some feline fuzzys engage in. It helps in each instance to try to peer into the cats psyche and see why they would do what they're doing.

A cat who is complaining loudly and following you around to do it, has an issue. Perhaps he hates his food and is hungry. Perhaps he feels neglected and needs pets. Cat's are not like dogs, who will just put up with it. Remember, in their brains we are here to serve them!

House cat problems can be a real challenge, but when understood, perhaps you can begin to feel the love. When your house cat becomes an "out" cat and brings you a prize, that juicy dead mouse or bird...well, to us it's gross! To him, it's probably the greatest gift he could give you and you should feel honored.

Biting and scratching must be looked at closely. Is he biting our of fear or is he playing? These are very different reactions and must be handled in a careful and understanding way. Playing? Squirt bottle. Fear? Rehabilitation.

Feline problems are most always solvable, don't despair! Just remember...Cats are NOT dogs!

Visit the video (Cat Clicker Training in Action) on Youtube. Tune the video to the segment starting at 1:40 and ending at 2:55. Note the time that touching the wand (this is the response of interest) occurs and describe the environment (i.e., the presence or absence of the reinforcer) just before the response and just after the response. Again, you don’t need the sound to complete this activity.
While doing so, think about:
1. environment before the behavior (no reinforcer present)
2. the response of interest
3. environment just after the behavior (reinforcer present)

Answer in this format:
1. Before the behavior 2. The Behavior 3. After the behavior

I had answered the first part like this and my teacher said its a no no, pIiZ help
1. Cat has no food at 2:10
2. Cat touches wand at 2:11

Five Steps For Socializing Your Dog To Other Pets

Socializing your pet to accept new dogs into the household is not always an easy task. We all read the biblical account of Noah and his Ark and wondered just how he got the dogs to survive in the ark together for five minutes let alone 40 days and nights of rain. The dog usually has its own ideas of its territory and home and is generally not a generous creature when it come to sharing but would much rather chase the intruders away. We have to reprogram the dogs thinking to make it understand that chasing the cat or iguana or whatever other pet you may have, is not acceptable. So how about some instruction on just how it's done?

For the First tip, Insure the Safety of Both Dogs and Yourself. To start, make certain that the new animal will be safe. Place the new pet in a pet carrier or some other sturdy structure that prohibits the dog from actually physically contacting the animal but still allows for both dogs to see, smell and hear each other. This provides a way for both dogs to acclimate to each other in a safe, though possibly a bit stressful, situation. In later steps, gloves might be advisable to avoid scratches from a nervous pet.

Secondly, Rewards Work Wonders. After the dogs have both calmed a bit give them each a small reward, such as a morsel of some favorite food. Be sure to give the dog lots of verbal praise and affection when it is not barking or trying to get to the new animal as this will show the dog that you are accepting of the new pet's presence and you expect him to be also. Repeat this process several times over the course of a week or so, until both dogs seem fairly accustomed to the presence of the other and their aggressions seem to have subsided. At this point, you are ready to move on to the next step and tip number three.

The third tip to socializing your animal is Get Help. This step will require an assistant to help with one of the dogs. Have the assistant leash the dog and hold him firmly on a very short leash. After instructing the assistant to maintain control of the dog, open the pet carrier and bring the new pet out carefully. Your dog will likely move towards the animal so be sure the assistant has the dog held tightly and be careful not to let the new pet panic and escape your grasp. Gradually bring them closer together and let them calmly adapt to each others presence. Repeat this step several times over the next few days and by the end of the week, these two dogs should be like old chums.

Another tip to remember in socializing your pets is that, while the dogs most likely won't make an instant attachment to each other, there are those special picture perfect moments that you will want to cherish a lifetime. So keep the camera handy and loaded with film. The candid shots of training at its best provide memories that will last forever. Few things are more fun than looking at a picture of your dog with an iguana riding around the room perched on his back and telling a little white lie that you taught the two of them to do that.

Our Fifth and final point is remember that just like humans, not everyone is going to get along. There will be days where the dog and the cat are going to feud or the iguana will get cantankerous and slap the dog with his tail for the fun of it. Some dogs were just never meant to live in harmony but with a lot of patience and a little direction you can make your household fairly peaceable most of the time. When things go sour, just take it in stride and put the dogs in their separate areas for a bit and, given a cooling period, they will be friends again in no time.

With these simple tips you can be certain that life around your home will be much more harmonious and you might just have a bit more respect for Noah and his Ark.

Dog Training Crate Training

how can I toilet train my dog without crate training ?

I have a boy Maltese x west highland terrier ( 15 weeks ) and he keeps doing his business in the house, sometimes he goes outside and I praise him but patting him saying good boy and by giving him a treat by sometimes he still does it outside, how should I punish him and how should I train him without using a crate

Put him on a very strict schedule of taking him out to potty. Start with taking him out every 2 hours. When ever he goes out side pet him, praise him, say "good boy potty". When he does it in the house just give a stern "no" and take him outside immediately.
It takes time and patience but he will get it.

House Training A Dog - 2 Steps That Will Get It Done Fast

When it comes to house training a dog there are some important things to consider about the animal itself, which will help you to understand its toilet training habits. To begin with, dogs are a naturally clean animal. Whilst this fact itself is true, the level of cleanliness per individual dog will vary slightly. Whatever the level of cleanliness, dogs act instinctively to maintain that standard. A dog will not intentionally soil itself, nor will it instinctively soil its den or bedding area. By observing whether your dog prefers to eliminate on grass or on soil or gravel, will help you to manage the training of your animal in future. One of the most useful ways to begin house training a dog, is to observe where your dog chooses to empty its bladder or bowel, and to take advantage of these natural traits in order to quickly and effectively have it successfully house trained.

To effectively house train a dog you will need to follow these two steps. Firstly, an area will need to be cordoned off that will be able to comfortably and safely house the dog and an area that the dog can call its own space. It will be the dogs den, simply because dogs are den animals. You should spend a good amount of time with your dog in his own private space. The dog should associate this area as being a good place to be. Often, owners will section off part of their kitchen as it makes easy work of cleaning should any accidents occur. Utilising a section of your living room isn't recommended as its difficult to define the area that is the dogs private space and your space. The living room should also be viewed as a play area for you and your dog, and somewhere to enjoy being together. Make sure you make things comfortable for your dog, give him his own bed, and a few chew toys in there also. In the beginning, a pup may eliminate in its own area, but this will almost always cease to occur as soon as the pup realises that this is its private area.

When the dog has finally become accustomed to sleeping in his own bed, within his own confined space, it will then be possible for you to move that bed anywhere else in the house for it to sleep. If you do move the bed outside of your dogs living area, its important then that you restrict your dog to the confines of the bed only. If you are using a crate for the dogs bed, be sure to close the crate door. Alternatively, if you are using a cushion or a towel for the dogs bed, then have it placed near solid furniture and harness the dog to it so it cannot wander off that bed.

You should never leave your dog unattended whilst it is harnessed or on a leash. One way to keep on top of a wandering puppy in the early stages of house training your dog, is to place a leash on it collar and clip the collar to your belt. This way the pup can go only where you go, and no further.

Secondly, when you are house training a dog, you will need to set up a designated toilet area for it to eliminate in. You will then need to train your dog to only go to that area to toilet. If your dog starts to go potty in the house, you should take him immediately to the toilet area and let him do his business there. Whilst he is there, you should stay with him and say the toilet command to him and praise him when he is done. Use the same command each time he eliminates. And if he makes a mistake, yelling and hitting the dog will only hamper your toilet training efforts. Reprimand him by saying the same thing each time, like "Naughty Boy". And take him to the designated area, where you would say the command for him to eliminate, such as "Toilet Time". Always heavily praise your dog when they get it right and they will associate the action with being positive.

Once you have mastered house training a dog, you will have established some commands that can be built upon for future training. Keep in mind at all times, however, house training a dog requires loads of patience and consistency. Many times a dog fails at this because the owner has not given it enough time to learn. If you need further help with the task there are many very informative products available that will assist in your toilet training endeavour.

Do It Your Self Dog Training I Can Do That - Heres The Benefits Of Dog Training

What are the advantages of dog training. First of all, with training you will build a lifetime bond between you and your canine pal. A well-behaved dog is much more likely to become an active member of your family. Also well-socialized, trained dogs make it easy for you to take them on vacations, to the park, and on visits to other family members' homes without it turning into a nightmare for the both of you.

What your dog training needs is to be is consistent. The most important thing the majority of dog owners don't realize is that your dog training is for the owner as well as the dog. Dogs can't think like we do, but we will certainly should try to think like them we just need to find out how. Dogs, by their nature are pack animals, and in their pack there's always a leader. You just need to figure out the way to become the leader. By using various types of communication this will be the key.

In a pack type of family the leader dictates everything to the pack What he will be teaching is limits as well as what's sufficient and what's not. If we train like we are the leader of the pack then it is natural for the dog to realize that we are in control and not him. Socialization builds your dog's personality, and a calm dog is less sure to be assertive or afraid and will have less behavioral issues. Dogs that have received exposure to many alternative types of people, places and things are way easier to train as well. If you have not exposed your dog to various social settings like the park, different people, cars beach they can build up a fear of anything new or of any change in their routine.

Always make sure that your dog has all his shots before you start socializing him. I would check with your vet first before you do any socialization. You don't want him to get anything that could make him ill. Most people don't understand that dogs must be exposed to as easy things such as sand, for instance. If your dog is not exposed he might not want to go on the sand when you go to the beach. Take your puppy early to the beach or any place that might have sand so he can use to it. the sand at the beach. Many folks find out the tough way that socialization has many forms, shapes and facets to it. The significance of socialization is amazing. It is very important that we have a well- behaved dog, and this could be accomplished through Socialization and Dog Training.

If you have a dog that is not exercised this can build up excess amount of stress and energy. By exercising your dog this will releases the stress and energy that has been pent up. Your dog does desires to be exercised. A bored dog can become out of control while an exercised one can become a calm and well behaved dog.

Always be consistent with your training and remember that it is not only verbal communication that teaches your dog also the non-verbal training techniques too. So start your training early and you can possible avoid problems like dog aggression and a whole list of others.

Finally, there are steps you can take to prevent dog aggression even though Mother Nature is pretty wily - it's hard to counteract the power of instinct! But that doesn't mean that we, as dog lovers and owners, are entirely helpless when it comes to handling our dogs. There's a lot that we can do to prevent aggression and other problems from rearing its ugly head in the first place - and even if prevention hasn't been possible (for whatever reason), there are still steps that we can take to recognize and deal with it efficiently.

Importance Of Teaching Kids To Train Pets

Most kids would love to have pets at home. Most kids like to have a dog or cat as a pet. Children will get a brilliant experience with pets. Pets help kids in learning about the responsibility, love, and care for a fellow living being. Parents have to give certain instructions or advice to their kids while dealing with pets. Social skills of kids can be improved by interaction with pets. Families will have a good time, where bonding can be enhanced while taking care of the pets. So many activities can be done by the families and pets together. For example, fitness can be gained by taking the pets out for a walk.

Parents can invite the kids to join them while taking care of the pets. By having a schedule for the pet care, it will become easy for you and your children in caring pets.

The responsibilities for the pet care can be shared with your children. Kids will be able to enjoy the work and makes them feel that their service is very much important to the pets. Discuss the works in prior with your children and ask them which tasks can be taken by them. Appreciate them for volunteering and remember not to force any work on them. The kid's age should also be considered while assigning the duties. The work that can be done according to their age should only be assigned to them.

The work done by the kids should be appreciated at every point of time. Parents can give their kids small rewards for their work. These activities help the kids to become independent and also to help others who depend on them. Parents should educate their kids about the importance of pets and animal life in the world. Kids should be warned and advised if they do any harmful activity to the pets. Children can be taught how to hold smaller pets by giving comfort to them. Supervise your kids while caring pets at each stage if your kids are too small. Ensure that they are not attacked by the pets. By involving kids in pet care they will get the chance to become closer with the pets and the pets too feel the same way.

Parents can teach the kids to feed them. So the pets will show a special bonding to your kids. Kids should be involved during the bath time of the pets. They can be taught about the importance of cleanliness and hygiene while caring pets. While doing the cleaning activities parents should tell them to use gloves. Children should be allowed to play with the pets as this is one way of pets getting bonded to the kids. Parents should keep an eye on them during the play time and make sure that pets are not harming the kids.

Children should be reminded once if they forget to do the committed tasks. Some kids will get bored of the repetitive tasks required during pet care. But parents should be able to convince the importance of these tasks though they are repetitive by citing few real time examples.

Dog Training Online: How Good Are Home Dog Training Courses?

Dog Training From Home

Dog training with an obedience instructor can vary in price and it usually takes place in a class. If you do the dog training yourself it is usually free and you can do it from your own home. You will soon see for yourself how effective a crate will make your dog training easier!. Many people find this part of dog training to be more common in puppies.

Should You Scold Your Dog?

Reprimanding is a type of dog training that should not be done unless necessary. It is possible that reward training for dogs has been around as long as there have been dogs to train. Early humans probably used some informal kind of reward training when taming the wolf pups that eventually evolved into modern dogs. Dogs are very much like small children and have short attention spans. See http://www.dogtraining-online.us/know-your-dog/opting-for-a-purebred-dog.html

Dogs are Simple Creatures..

But the dog is simply following its basic programming. Some collie owners acquire a family of ducks for their dog to "boss around;" this satisfies the dog's herding instinct and the ducks don't mind. Establishing yourself as pack leader to your dog is very important. Each dog pack only has one leader and in your case it must be you the human. Simple dog obedience training will not solve your dog's aggressive problems only some serious dog training will do the trick. Dog aggressiveness doesn't just mean biting; it means barking and lunging at people as well. Within a week your dog should sit when you tell him to.

Can Dogs Be Controlled?

Experts say that dog behaviors can be controlled through proper training. Dog behaviors are actually responses that are mostly triggered by environmental and social factors. Your best bet would be to maximize training of your dog when it decides to bark. Provide Adequate Food and Water - Provide food suited to your dog's age size and condition. Walk Your Dog - Your dog will let you know when it needs to be walked.

Pomeranian Young Puppy Training

Pomeranian puppy training can be challenging, however with tolerance this certainly could be attained. So long as you appropriately prepared the dog training from the beginning, everything will work out properly.

Pomeranians are exceptional canines and has a high level of energy. All of these dogs are really passionate to learn so long as that you are tolerant and persistent.

Start at Early Age

Ideally Pomeranian pup has to be coached between 8 to 14 weeks. By this time, he's without a doubt receptive to any techniques or commands that you are going to teach him. A Pomeranian dog owner should commence coaching or training their puppy right away because he has only restricted opportunity to coach them easily and efficiently.

Even though Pomeranians are smart, if they are still much younger than 8 weeks they should not be taught since they're not too responsive during this time. Make the most of this period to connect and be acquainted with your puppy.

The actual 2 months are crucial areas of your puppy's teaching program. This can be the best time for a Pomeranian dog owner to set a routine for his pup to hold and be comfortable with. You must instil in your dog that you are the boss and he's the one who needs to follow. Often there is a need to create restrictions specifically but gently and constantly as well.

Please read this article, carefully. I have used electric collars for over 20 years with great results. It depends on what you need done and how much work you are willing to out into it.
Do not listen to the bleeding hearts who tell you how cruel it is and how much it hurts, read the ENTIRE article and then decide for yourself on what is best. The electric collar is one of the best training tools out there today. Good luck.

ADD: Mellisa, you have NO idea of what an electric collar is or how it works, why talk? I would be more then happy to have one on and have you push the button, I do it all the time. As a matter of fact, I insist that all people whom I train dogs for, HAVE to put it on, BEFORE their dogs wear it. If you have no idea and you are a bleeding heart, as you so put it, please, do not get involved in things you don't have any experience in.
