Dog Training Tips Chewing

Do you have any training dogs tips?

We just got a new 11 week old Rottweiler. I am not a dog person, and I don't know too much about training. Any tips would help. A specific question I have is: He likes to lick hands, and once and a while rubs his teeth on them. A little love nip I suppose. Should I stop that completely, or should I train him to keep it nice and not bite hard?? Im thinking if he keeps it nice, it will get him used to having hands in his mouth for when we need to pull out the rocks he chews on and brush his teeth. Advice?

With Rottweiler you must start early training and obedience, because they get so big.
Big means: it's easier for them to be out of control if you have not obedience trained.
Be consistent.
Take to local obedience classes, if possible.
I advise no hand licking or nipping - at least discourage it.

Cat Problems

How to train a cat with problems?

I have a cat who is disturbed, he bites attacks, and growls, how to we make him an enjoyable pet?

My cat does that when I make him mad. Anyway, try using spray bottles filled with water, and spray him when he is bad. If that doesn't work, try scaring him (not too scared) and he will probably not want to do it (or get scared) Again!

Note: with spray bottles, ONLY USE WATER! anything else could poison them.

Behavioral Problems In Cats

behavioral problems in cats
Behavioral problem with my cat?

I have two cats. One is named Rachel (9 years old), the other is named Tiger (about 2 years old). Rachel ran away on Feb. 20th and came back on mothers day. Now, Tiger is completely pissed off by her presence. Tiger paces, and growls, and hisses. She goes up to sniff Rachel, then hisses and/or smacks her. She never had these problems with Rachel before. In fact, she loved Rachel. Will this behavior continue, or will she get used to Rachel again? Is there anything I can do to help?

you sure its the same cat?!....

either way tiger probably smells an unfamiliar scent....

give your cats a bath...couldn't hurt.

positive reinforcement is a way to ease the tension. keep them apart for a time then slowly re -introduce them in a positive way....like apart when you are not home and closer when you are there to play with them....and feed them at the same time---keep their bowls apart and slowly bring them closer and closer...this allows them to associate each other with the good feelings of affection and feeding.

lol

Dog Training Barking

dog training barking

Dog Training - Barking Collars Are Helpful for Many Reasons

Copyright (c) 2011 Joe Maldonado

Are you wondering if you need dog training for barking? It is quite possible that you could have some success with one of the many Dog Training Barking collars on the market today. Here is what you can expect when you begin this training method:

When your dog first gets reinforcement from the collar, it may upset you a little or cause you alarm. You may see her jump suddenly or give a little yip. Don't let this bother you too much. The initial reaction your dog has to the reinforcement is going to be the worst one.

After this initial response, the reactions will lessen. Eventually you get the desired effect, which is that your dog stops barking and simply stays calm. Just keep an eye on the way your dog reacts to the collar.

There will probably be a noticeable improvement within a week or so after you begin training. Most people begin to get complacent at this point and start thinking that they have solved the problem of their dogs barking. Sometimes it is true, but this is not likely in most cases.

There is generally going to be a testing period in which the dog tries to increase the amount of attempts to bark without correction. This will likely occur during the second week of the training phase. Remember that at this time it will be important not to change the course of your treatment.

You can prevent future setbacks by placing the collar on your dog during any situation in which he must be quiet. If he is not wearing the collar in such situations and is allowed to bark, he may suffer a setback. However, if he is wearing the collar he will keep from barking which will in turn prevent the problem from reoccurring.

You may want to train your dog in other ways at the same time as this, for other purposes. If so, be cautious of any other tools that you may decide to use while your dog is wearing a bark collar. In general, it isn't a good idea to let your dog wear more than one collar at a time.

More specifically, do not at any time, for any reason use a metal choke collar when your dog is wearing a bark collar. This could possibly trigger off a false reinforcement. If it is an absolute must that you put a second collar on your dog, then a better and safer choice would be a nylon collar or any other collar that is nonmetallic.

Do not ever attach a leash to the bark collar. If you plan on using a leash, attach it to a nylon collar. Do not ever pull on the bark collar when your dog is wearing it. If you do this, you could hurt her throat.

There are a lot of people who need to keep their dog from barking, for one reason or another. When you are in the process of dog training, barking collars are extremely helpful if not necessary tools for success.

Dog Behavior Problems

Dog Behavior Problems

It is difficult to know where dog behavior problems originate from however there are actions you can take to work through your dogs problems. A big fear in most owners is having to deal with a dog who is hostile by nature.

When a dogs aggressiveness is activated they can become very tough to contain. Heaven forbid that you lose control of your dog because if they do end up assaulting someone then the resulting effects won't be a pretty sight.

The foremost method to exercise to ascertain your dogs aggressiveness does not come to surface is to try to avert what sets him off in the first instance. I don't mean to shut him away from anything and everything, rather just keep an eye out for the sort of things which could make your dog turn hostile.

When you have seen what sets your dog off you can look for the types of initiations that are certain to make your dog go barmy. For example if your dog is out with you on a run and you see a youngster on a walking near you or every time a child goes past you and your dog and your dog has growled, snarled or lunged for them, in the past, you just simply cross the street and walk on the other side before the child gets anywhere near you.

to aid you with these dog behavior problems the other thing you could try in the same situation is that when you recognise the minor coming near you. You move from the middle of the path to the side and command your dog into a sit position getting him into a calm state before the minor comes near. Turn his attention away with a tasty, smelly snack and keep him in that state until the minor has moved away from you.

When he stays composed give him the treat followed up with lots of positive support. If you keep to this then your dog will before long start to follow you more and will stop caring about trying to defend both you and him from everything that comes near him.

Be aware that his belligerence and all other dog behavior problems are normally a caution that he is anxious and is defending himself.

Dog Training German Shepherd

[simpleaffiliate source="chitika" results="0"][/simpleaffiliate]

German Shepherd Dog Training

The one dog that has the potential to do just about anything is the German shepherd.  A well trained, correctly bred German shepherd can turn into the kind of dog that you are looking for; a wonderful pet for the family, competitive obedience dog, or a trained attack dog, you name it and they can probably do it.  All around working skills is what this breed of dog was designed for.  German shepherd dog training will be the glue that holds the pieces together.

German Shepherd Dog Training

These great dogs are capable of learning at the early age of seven weeks old.  As long as the commands are simple, the puppy’s brain is able to begin to absorb them at seven weeks old; an important note to remember is it will take awhile for the body to catch up.  Teach your puppy games that he will enjoy for years to come.

Exercise will help your dog improve physically and mentally.  It’s fun to teach tricks and enjoyable to do.  Your dog will become more self assured the more he learns.  Your dog will learn new commands and signals that can used at a later time.  Offer your dog treats while teaching tricks.  As your puppy matures, doing some tricks for some praise will be very exciting for him.

German shepherd training is best done with positive methods.  Training your dog without hurting them is the best way.  Positive training uses positive reinforcements to reach the desired behavior.  Training your dog using the positive method doesn’t mean the dog gets to do whatever it wants to do.   Acceptable behavior allows them to get their reward.  Using positive training produces a dog that is happy and eager.  Positive training lets your dog obey out of trust.  Your dog and you will become a team.

Tips for Training Your German Shepherd

Leash Training

In the beginning, while walking your dog, they might want to carry the leash in their mouth.  They can carry the leash for the first few times, but aren’t allowed to chew on it.  While holding the leash in your left hand, keep the dog to your left side.  The dog should always be trained with short lessons.  It could take several lessons before the dog starts to figure out leash training.

The Sit and The Down

Positive training using treats for teaching the sit.  The treat is held in front of the dog’s nose, and then lift it up and back.  This helps the dog fold his legs under him. While you’re using the treat to get him to sit, don’t forget to say “sit”.  When the dog sits give him his treat.

You start in the sit position, when teaching the down.  Slowly move the treat down and forward in front of the dog.  The dog will lower his front legs. Don’t forget to say “down”, while lowering the treat and after the dog lays down reward with the treat and lots of praise.

In Closing

Many German shepherd dogs have been ruined by incorrect training or lack of training. The experience that you have in training these dogs will be very exciting.  Living with a well trained German shepherd dog is a trip of a life time.

German Shepherd Dog Training

[simpleaffiliate source="chitika" results="0"][/simpleaffiliate]
german shepherd dog training
Need help for my Dog leash training. My dog is a german shepherd.?

You'll want to invest in a choke chain for this training.

With the chain on his neck properly (there is a right and wrong way, ask a pet specialist at the specialty store you go to), have your dog sit on your left side. In your left hand, hold the leash loose enough to allow your dog to walk inches to the left of your leg, but only get his head past your thigh. In your right hand, hold the rest of the leash and a yummy treat. While making sure he sees the treat, hold your right hand at your left hip, just in front of his nose so that he can see it without lunging for it or going cross-eyed. After that, take a step forward and say "heel" as you move your right leg. Go about 5-10 feet, still holding the treat out, so that he follows you. If he pulls even once to get the treat, stop walking and move your hand back to your right hip and wait 5 seconds. Then, repeat the process. After he successfully follows you the short distance 3 times without pulling, lengthen the distance and repeat.

How can I fix my barking dog problems?

It is so difficult and annoying to deal with the dog who seems don't care no matter what you ask it to do. Instead of enjoying a quiet time with your baby, you keep screaming out of heart trying to shut off this barking machine. If this is your case, you are at the right place to find the answers to all your questions. You don't want to spend a lot of money for private lessons, but still want to train your dog to civilized behavior, right? Keep reading and I'll show you how and where you can find all those answers and fix yor barking dog problems.

When we talk about barking as a behavior dog problems, we mean barking that's nuisance barking, which is disruptive and annoying. Listen carefully to your dog's bark and you'll discover that the barks have different meanings. Many dogs will give an alarm bark when someone enters pack territory. They are far more tuned in to the environment than we are. It's possible that the dog is aware of activity that the humans don't know about and is responding to that. This is normal.

Some dogs, however, bark at nothing: out of sheer boredom or stress at being left alone. The barking can get excessive, to the point of neighbor complaint. This type of behavior dog problem needs the holistic approach of increasing the dog's exercise and obedience training to provide mental stimulation for the dog.

Remember, the punishment rarely works to fix your barking dog problems and can make the situation even worse by increasing the dog's anxiety. Often, teaching the dog to bark on command can go a long way toward preventing barking dog problems. Barking on command puts the owner in control and allows the owner to tell the dog when to turn it off.

With highly territorial dogs, prevention might be the best option to solve the barking dog problems. Block their view of activities that are likely to turn on a bark fest.

Since some barking dog problems are also brought on by boredom, make sure the dog is exercised daily. Dogs that get enough exercise and mental stimulation rarely sit around barking all day.

In some cases, bringing the dog inside the house can solve the barking dog problems. After the dog has been moved indoors, obedience trained, and exercised appropriately, a corrective antibark collar may be a reasonable option if the problem still fails to resolve. Training should always be the first option.

How can i train my German Shepherd puppy?

my 3 month old puppy really needs some obedience training, and i have been searching on the internet for a while now on how to train puppy's/dogs. but all the videos i have seen are trainers training puppy's that are all ready trained. any advice? and please don't tell me to take her to a training school.

"don't tell me to take her to a training school".

Okay. Why not?

If I wanted to be a plumber, I'd end up going to school in addition to working on the job.

There are many good (and bad) books, videos, etc. out there on training. "Don't Shoot the Dog" by Karen Pryor is a good one.

That being said, a LOT of training is timing and reacting to what the dog is doing. The greatest book, or video in the world can't watch YOU and tell you that your timing is off, or wrong.

VERY basic training techniques can be gotten out of videos and books. If you have any sort of problem, they won't help you much.

Most dog clubs have puppy and beginner classes. Typically, they'll run $10.00/class. Usually you pay for ALL the classes at one time. Typically classes run 8-10 weeks.

I can teach you more in a couple of one hour classes than you can get out of a video, or a book in a few weeks.

how to train dog
How to train dog agressiveness?

I have an almost 2-year-old Havanese who is very loving as long as she knows you, but she is shy with strangers. What the problem is though, is that she can be somewhat territorial with her food towards other dogs. ONLY DOGS, we now have four total (a mini schnauzer puppy and 2 older australian shepherds). Are there any tips, books, sites, ANYTHING that can help me out in order to rid her of this habit!?

Try "Mine!" by Jean Donaldson or "Feeling Outnumbered" by Patricia McConnell.

For now, separate her while eating. You do not want her to continue to practice this behavior.

A dog barks for many reasons. He may be trying to deter potential threats who have set foot in the house. In this case, the barking is loud to scare off the strangers. He may be caught up in excitement, and the sound of the barks is upbeat. It may even be some sort of a fanfare to welcome you home. Some dogs bark when they are bored, as a way to keep themselves entertained. Most people can tolerate a few seconds of dog barking, but when it becomes incessant, it can be very annoying. As a dog owner, you must know how to control your dog when it is barking.
Distract Him

When your dog goes berserk at the arrival of a house guest, you will have to get him to stop barking if not your guest will be intimidated. One of the best ways to stop a dog from barking is to distract him. You can grab his attention by whistling or clapping loudly. You may also instruct him to be quiet by yelling the usual command you have been using. Once his attention turns to you, shift his focus to a toy. You will need to do more than just getting him to be quiet. Get him to perform basic commands such as sitting so that his focus is off the "intruders" and on you.

Make Sure Your Dog Stays Active

As mentioned, some dogs bark because they are bored. They also bark to release pent-up energy. You can avoid unnecessary barking by not leaving your dog alone for a long duration. Be sure to play with him whenever you can find the time. Bring him out for a walk or exercise. Not only will he remain healthy, his barking will reduce.

Do Not Encourage Barking

Most dogs know that they will get attention from their owners when they bark. This is the same as a crying baby who demands attention from their parents. When they bark, their owners may scurry and bring them their meals. If you want your dog to stop barking, you may want to turn a deaf ear to it. Do not give him any attention; do not cuddle or scold him. Completely ignore your dog. He will soon know that his barking will yield no results.

These three steps are effective in helping you get started with your dog barking training. There are other techniques that you can use to stop your dog from barking incessantly.

Why would you want your dog to dig and get filthy with a white coat. That may be why they were bred in the first place but they don't need to do it now. With such a great breed teach him some basics and by no means put Bones In Sand for him to eat and get sick

Train A Dog

Training Your Dog In A Proper Way Is Necessary

A dog, as they say, is a man's best friend. And so like most humans, a dog also needs training to be obedient and well behaved. A proper training helps the dog to understand what the owner has to say and it discovers its own way to respond back. Most dog owners would agree to this. Therefore, it becomes necessary to train your dog in a way that is helpful to both.

Most dog owners want their dogs to behave in ways that are not embarrassing for the owners. All dogs need to be taught how to be obedient. Some of the common obedience training terms include ‘sit', ‘stay', ‘down', ‘come' and ‘heel'. Loose leash walking also requires training for the dog.

The benefits of training increase when a dog is trained professionally. Professional dog training involves teaching the dog's owner to train his/her dog. It requires that the owner and the dog attend the classes together. This helps in creating an understanding between them and also learning to work under the guidance of a trainer.

Training a dog in such a way helps the dog to socialize with other people and their pets. Professional dog training takes care of the minute details of dog training that might be ignored if the dog is being trained at home.

Communication is one of the most important aspects of dog training. The trainer communicates to the dog what kind of behaviours are appropriate or correct in certain situations and what behaviour is undesired in certain situations. The trainer should also be able to understand the communication from the dog. It is important to understand a dog's emotional state in order to train it in an effective way.

To use rewards is a powerful technique in successful professional dog training. Such training helps to develop good behaviour in dogs. Treating them to speciality foods, giving a chance to play with some toy, giving extra attention, interacting with other dogs can be rewards of good behaviour.

Many of the professional trainers teach the dog owner tricks that they can teach their dogs. Teaching tricks to the dog results in better understanding between the dog and the owner. It also provides entertainment to the dog and saves it from boredom by engaging the dog's mind.

It should be kept in mind that, just like different humans learn things at their own pace; similarly different dogs will also learn at their own pace. Each dog has its own way of learning. Using physical force and punishment to teach them might end up resulting in submissive behaviour by the dog. Professional dog trainers, however, teach the owners the appropriate physical force that can be used to teach them.

Thus, we have seen the importance of proper training of a dog. No dog comes fully trained into this world. It has to be taught how to inculcate correct mannerisms and behaviour. Giving a proper professional dog training not only has a positive effect on the dog but also teaches the owner to adopt the right way of training a dog.
