What's The Best Dog Obedience Instructor Course for me?

I have a great passion for dogs, and would love to start a dog obedience career.

What's the best education for an aspiring dog obedience trainer? I'm currently looking into ICS Canada (http://www.icslearn.ca/dogobedience/index.html). How prestigious does it look to you?

If possible, I'd love to have on location training (around Ottawa or Montreal, Canada), but if you can't find me a local school, I wouldn't mind doing it over a distance.

honestly i don't know, but my dogs' trainer Sharlene Elsie owns CanineLife here in London, Ontario [6 hours from ottawa, about 7 from montreal] and she's certified and an amazing trainer. you could email her and ask her how and where she got certified

as far as ICS or any distance learning program like Penn Foster I do not recommend. sure you'll be certified but will you have good training? most likely not

its a new course too, so its most likely their first time running it and you'll be one of the guinea pigs

not sure other institions that have instructor courses so thats why i gave you Sharlene's email. she's an awesome young lady and has 3 dogs of her own

What age to take a puppy/dog for obedience training?

I have a Great Dane puppy. Of course I want the best training possible for her. Especially since she will become a huge size. The local Petsmart has a great reputable program and I was wondering at what age I should begin this?

Puppy kindergarten classes are now taking puppies after they've had their 2nd shots. Puppies at this age learn very quickly and this is the vital age where they need socializing.

I've taken my older Belgian at 3 months and my current Belgian shepherd puppy who's now 3 months just started classes. (Not Petsmart classes!)

Obedience dog training typically cost from $40.00 to $70.00 dollars for a set of classes. Remember, you get what you pay for. Also, when choosing an Obedience Training class go sit in the class, without your dog, a couple of times before you sign up. If it's a reputable school they will let you sit in and watch. If they don't let you sit and watch then look for another class. AKC.com has a list of obedience training classes. Make sure the person that is teaching the class is legitimate and knows what they are doing.

Dog Obedience Training, Any ideas how much it is?

Dogs are the best friend of everybody. It is loyal and obliging. However, you will need to train the dog carefully before it is able to be your best friend. In fact dogs are brilliant and can be tough. Only when you train your family pet, getting him to stay put in a place is important. It will be very frustrating to have your guest being uncomfortable when your dog is pouncing or jumping around. Conversation is impossible when you have to search for your dog continuously in the park because it just does not stay in one place. By giving this instruction, this instruction, you already have the dog sitting obediently in one place.

Actually this isn't a question at all but a sort of rant in some attempt to discuss obedience training. I think you are very much in need of more experience in actually training dogs before you make such an attempt. Your 'question' is false on face ad dogs are not the 'best friend of everyone'. Many can be loyal and obliging but many can be quite the opposite. I agree that they do need to be trained and have been training dogs and people to train dogs for many decades. I am assuming you meant that 'dogs are brilliant and can be taught' instead of 'tough' - they can actually be both and/or neither. Like any animal, they are individuals and have individual characteristics and capabilities - many are not 'brilliant' at all and are quite difficult to teach and can have difficulty retaining, much like people :) Anyone ignorant enough to let their dog off lead at a park when the dog will need to be 'searched' for likely hasn't got much going in the way of the art of conversation anyway. Your post makes little or no sense whatsoever.

What will stop a German Shepard from barking, he's been to dog Obedience and still barks?

My dog gets walk twice a day until he is warn out and gets allot of attention but he continues to bark when every someone walks past my house. I've heard about the collars and I want to know if they work and which one is better, I only want to use it while I'm home because I still want him to protect my house when I'm not here. Please help

Causes for problem barking may include:

Genetic pre-disposition (certain breeds are prone to more frequent barking)
Improper confinement (a dog in a locked room, a dog crate or enclosed yard without shelter from the elements)
Lack of exercise (pent-up energy is released through barking - ruled out in this case)
Environmental sounds (other dogs, passing cars, thunder, ringing of the phone)
Boredom (long periods without playmates or toys)
Separation anxiety (a dog may bark for attention)

Dog obedience training, any ideas how much it is?

i'm looking into having my dog trained in obedience. he's an extremely intelligent border collie, 2 years old, but he's like a stroppy teenager, if i tell him off for stealing a baby toy that he knows he's not allowed to have then he'll throw himself to the floor like he's going to sleep!! he also has days where he decides he's not in the mood to listen to me so will do something naughty, if i tell him no, (i almost never shout at him and never smack him) he'll do it again as soon as my back is turned.

so you can probably tell, he doesn't need all the training like sit, stay, come here and all that, just needs to learn off-limits areas and off-limits things. i'd like to think one day i can come home and find he hasn't 'pinched' anything.

so does anyone have any experience in having a dog trained? stories? and how much is it roughly?

ps, i did check with other collie owners, he's getting enough exercise

firstly contact your local vets, they usually have the numbers of local trainers, they really dont cost much our trainers are 50 pound which must be paid at enrolement, this is for a course of ten lessons, the reason they ask for all the money upfront is to ensure you turn up, some clubs train for specialist things ( flyball etc and may be a little more) good luck
