Top Dog Obedience School

Are Chihuahuas dumb? I love all doggies but....?

I am interested in adopting a chihuahua from a shelter. Right now I have a papillon, which is VERY smart. I looked at this list of obedience intelligence, and out of all dogs my pap is #8!

other top 10 dogs are like german shep., golden , lab, collie, etc. as you would expect.


so I'm not really that interested in him learning tricks or anything, but if he is really dim that is going to be annoying. Don't get me wrong I'd still love him but there are other dogs at the shelter, so I'm not sure.

Also, I had a bichon frise once and it was quite dumb (It's toward bottom of this list). Went through obedience school, etc. never answered me, never stopped or came when I asked her to, etc.
also maybe "dumb" is a little harsh, how about stubborn or just likes to ignores you?

In my experience Chihuahuas are very intelligent. Somer of them can be a little nervous which might affect their responses. Ask the shelter if the dog was temperament assessed. THat can give you quite an accurate picture of this particular dog's personality.
