My dog is a mutt type...He responds to my command only when i hold his food plate in my hand..Clicker is not available in my town..So can i use a normal whistle(not a dog whistle) to train it? Dog whistle is also not available in my town..
You can use any sound as the marker that the dog has done the behavior you want, which some of told you the first time you posted about not being able to find a clicker.
But, while I'm here . . .
The idea behind the clicker is as a marker, a noise that tells the dog "I like what you were doing at that split second, keep doing it and you will get rewarded."
The point is to use it for things that are *new* -- things the dog does *not* already do when asked. So, if your dog knows that "sit" means "put your bottom on the ground" you don't use the marker noise for that.
If your dog *doesn't* know to sit when asked, you use the marker sound when you see him sit, the split second his bottom touches the floor. After some repetitions, the dog will start offering the behavior -- looking at you and deliberately sitting, clearly expecting the click and treat.
After that, you start substituting your cue for the click, then back up the timing of it, until the dog does the behavior whenever you say the cue.
If you have already taught a behavior, and the dog knows the cue (command), you don't need the clicker or other noise -- you just need to practice that behavior in lots of settings, and fade out the use of food.
If you've always had food in your hand when asking him to do something, he probably thinks that part of the cue. If you have treats hidden in containers all over the house, and can get one on-cue behavior from him when you ask, then "magically" produce a treat, that can help show him that he should always obey, whether you have food on you or not.
Also, use other things besides food that he wants and expects --- having a door opened, a toy, etc. Try asking for a trained behavior when he's eager for one of those things.

I saw a show and the dog would let the woman know when the phone is ringing or the doorbell or the smoke detector. I can understand for the doorbell and smoke alarm but why the phone? If she is deaf how can she use it?
There is voice recognition software. They put the phone on a device, and the device has a small screen. It types out what people say. And they respond by typing or speaking back. It's nothing really new or crazy, it has been around for quite some time.

Stories about how you potty trained your dog and give me tips thanks!! please don't answer my question if you are not going to give me any suggestions or tips.
House Training
House training your dog is simple if you follow a few basic rules. Remember that puppies younger than 10 to 12 weeks have little control. Accidents will always happen when teaching puppies to be clean in the house. Be kind and patient, and reward handsomely all outdoor elimination. Always remember that dogs do what works for them. Make outdoor pottying work really well for your puppy.
1) The puppy must have NO time unsupervised in your home. NONE. If you are not directly watching the puppy, it should be in the crate, or outside in a safe area. You MUST watch the puppy at ALL times when loose in the house. Use baby gates, crates, or tie the leash to your belt.
2) The puppy should sleep inside the crate by your bedside. This way you can hear if the puppy should happen to need to go out during the night.
3) You must go WITH the puppy outside for ALL trips for elimination. You must have treats with you. When the puppy is urinating, say "GO PEE PEE" in a nice praise tone of voice the entire time. When she is finished, pop the treat into her mouth at once, and praise praise praise. This should be something she gets at no other time, like tiny pieces of string cheese or boiled chicken. Same for defecation. Say "GO POOP" while she is going, and food reward and praise afterwards. You must observe and reward ALL outdoor potty time.
4) Keep a schedule. Feed at the same time, and walk outside at the same times. Your pup needs at least 4 trips outdoors each day, and 5 is probably better. Pup needs to go out at wake up time, lunch time, 4-5 PM, after dinner or any other meals, and before bed. Younger puppies may need to go out much more often.
5) Use a key word each time you go out. I say "Let's go out!!" in a happy tone of voice each time I'm opening the door to go out with the dog.
6) If you catch the puppy IN THE ACT of eliminating in your house, CLAP YOUR HANDS, say AH AH, OUTSIDE!! And immediately rush her outside. If she finishes there, do your usual food reward and praise.
The keys to getting your dog reliably housetrained are:
SUPERVISION: NO loose time in the house if you are not watching
REWARDS: ALL outdoor elimination MUST be observed and rewarded. If you only do this ONE thing, your puppy will get housetrained.
PATIENCE: Anger and punishment have no place in dog training. Elimination is a natural and pleasurable experience for your dog. You can teach her to not soil your house, but punishment will NOT help. It will only teach the dog to hide when she needs to eliminate.
If you have applied these techniques carefully for 4 weeks and you are still finding spots or piles after the fact, it's time for stronger measures. Roll up a newspaper and fasten both ends with a rubber band. Keep it handy. The very next time you find a spot of a pile that the dog has left behind, whip out that newspaper, and hit YOURSELF over the head firmly several times as you repeat "I FORGOT TO WATCH MY PUPPY".
Works every time.

Decades ago, dog training collars used by hunting and gun dogs have different levels of static shocks and after decades of study and innovation of this technology, the static shocks are way much humane yet very effective in dog training. And there are different types aside from static shock collars too, that approaches dogs in different way also effectively train them. Vibrations, ultrasonic sound and spray like citronella, lemon or water are the alternative correction signals used which also alert and capture dog's attention to obey and listen. This article will list some effective and innovative alternative dog training collars for different kind of corrections and training for dogs.
UltraSonic Dog Training Collar. Ultrasonic dog training collars use a high-pitched tone that we can't hear, but animals can, to stop bad behaviors. The ultrasonic model actually only uses a transmitter, no collar is needed, so mailmen or neighbors can use it to correct any dog within 30 feet. The Ultrasonic Remote Pet Trainer is a small, hand-held device designed to assist you in the training of your dog or cat. Ideal for correcting misbehaviors, it takes advantage of your pet's sensitive hearing in the ultrasonic frequency range, beyond the range of human beings. The Trainer has only two buttons: Positive Tone for reward and Ultrasonic Tone for correction. The system is ideal for correcting: barking, chewing, jumping up, digging, and much more. It can corrects your pet using a startling ultrasonic sound, inaudible to the human ear. This system is very easy to use yet it can affect other dogs or cats too at any location within the range but that's not the case, the system can effectively stop dog's barking at your neighborhood. The system usually includes an easy-to-follow training manual that also teaches you basic obedience training; the sit, stay, come, heel, down and break commands.
Spray Dog Training Collar. When your dog does something bad, you interrupt him in the act by activating the spray. This spray does not punish the dog, it just interrupts him for a moment and makes him ready for a different activity. A citronella spray bark collar is often viewed as a humane alternative to painful shock collars. The gentle spray bark collar has a small receptor designed to pick up and respond to the barking sound of the dog by releasing a spray of citronella in front of the dog's snout. Using a spray, not a punishment this device will make your dog a happy and well behaved pet. Using a remote control, a citronella spray is ejected from a device worn around the dog's neck. Simply press the button on the remote control and an inoffensive citronella spray is ejected. The spray can be triggered at a precise moment in time, so that the delay between the unacceptable behavior and the redirection stimulus is instantaneous. he calibrated spray, causes neither pain or nasty after-effects. In fact, we have noticed that the spray has an appeasing effect on dogs. Furthermore the use of the spray is more effective to eliminate bad behavior, than techniques which involves fear or pain. Spray dog training collars are safe, ozone free, harmless to pets and non-offensive to human, too.
Vibration Dog Training Collars. A vibrating collar works much like a pager. It has 2 parts, a hand held unit for the person, and another unit that the dog wears as a collar. Vibration Collar / Vibrating Dog Collars are good for many types of Dog Training, especially for training Deaf Dogs, hearing impaired dogs, and older dogs who can be hard of hearing. Please note that a vibrating collar is not needed to train a deaf dog. It is a training tool, not a magical device that will cause your dog to respond to every signal you give him or her. It will not help your dog to learn anything you want to teach him. It simply gives you a way to get your dog's attention when they are not looking at you. Many deaf dogs have been successfully and completely trained without one. Also note that vibrating collar is not the same as a shock collar (which is a correction meant to stop a dog's misbehavior). Vibration collars can work in the same fashion. They allow you the option of communication without stimulation. Much like every other signal that you introduce to your dog (stimulation, vibration or tone) they mean nothing to the dog without the correct association. Dogs do not understand vibration without the training.

My dog is 3 yrs old. He has always pottied outdoors. I am now moving into an apartment on the 2nd floor. I don't want to go outside at like 12:30 at night by myself and walk him around the bldg to potty. Is there any way to teach him to use potty pads just at night?
If your going to use puppy pads you might as well use them all the time, doing both will only confuse your dog. Start by taking the puppy pads out to where your dog uses the bathroom, it sounds gross but once you get your dog to pee on one bring it inside so that your dog knows its ok to pee on it, if your dog uses the bathroom inside pick him up as fast as you can and put him on the mat, their are also sprays to spray on the mats that have a scent dogs want to pee on they are really helpful ! Good luck !

4 Crucial Components Connected With Potty Training Dogs! Prevent Your Dog From Relieving Himself Inside Your Home!
Potty training dogs does not have to become challenging experience on condition that one is aware of the correct methods to train and implements all of them on a consistent basis. One must be aware that your furry friend have to eliminate indoors once or twice first before he'll acknowledge that it is not necessarily the best way to please you. So equip yourself with stacks of patience and cleaning liquids and make use of the tips on potty training dogs I specified beneath to achieve the best results Quickly!
Potty Training Dogs Part 1 - The Importance Of A Den
In order to accelerate potty training dogs you can create an isolated living area for your furry friend. Dogs are naturally den animals and they're not going to soil it because it plays an important role in their everyday life (they use it to get some sleep and hide from all the fuss around them). This can be a quick technique to force your furry friend to learn to control his physiological mechanisms.
Potty Training Dogs Part 2 - Show Him The Toilet
At the beginning of toilet training you must bring your puppy to one chosen earlier place on a regular basis and use only one command ('outside' or 'go potty') to provoke the elimination procedure. This way he'll get accustomed to relieving himself outdoors and will link this procedure with one particular term.
Potty Training Dogs Part 3 - Watch The Clock
When potty training dogs you should take into consideration the fact that dogs are able to urinate or defecate soon after they have finished ingesting (first twenty minutes. You can use this information to your advantage and plan the meals regularly so that you know when to take your dog out. By doing this you will save yourself a lot of time and nerves on tidying the mess that your four-legged friend left on the carpet.
Potty Training Dogs Part 4 - Quit Punishing Your dog!
The easiest way to slow down toilet training canines is to scream or hit them as a form of punishment. Not only will your canine friend become confused in regards to what you expect him to do but also stressed about the whole situation. Instead, remain calm and consistent with applying the potty training hints laid out above and organize plenty of cleaning liquids as your dog will have to eliminate on the carpet a few times first in order to understand that it is not exactly what you want him to do. Always reward your dog if he does his job within the preferred spot in order to reinforce the good behavior.

Some people think if a dog bites one time, that it will bite again and again. This is not necessarily true. Everything depends on the situation and why the dog bit. If your dog bites someone, it should let the owner that his dog is in need of immediate training modification to reduce his aggressive tendencies. In order to do that, you must first find out the reason the dog bit.
Biting is a natural defense mechanism with dogs. They bite for obvious reason such as hunting and killing their meals. Dogs also bite as a way of communicating with their fellow animals to establish rank and position. It has taken many years for the canine to become domesticated to live in human society. However, a large percentage of domestic dogs continue to bite humans, and aggression is the number one reason why dogs are euthanized. Most often, this kind of drastic decision can be reduced by educating owners and working with them to teach their dog to reduce aggression.
It is thought that genetic factors may play a role in whether or not a dog may bite. Some breeds are thought of as guard dogs and so aggression is appreciated. Many breeds have an instinct for chasing moving objects which can escalate in to a predatory type situation. Socialization is an important factor from the time your pet is a small puppy to adult-hood because fear of others is a major cause of aggression.
Preventing aggression from the puppies youngest years means socialization and consistent training. Most puppies love to nip at your hands or body parts. As a puppy, no damage is usually done by this playful exchange. But if it allowed to continute, when the puppy becomes an adult they play can turn in to something else. Play biting and rough housing should not be allowed from day one. Using punishment as a means of teaching this will not work. Positive reinforcement should be associated with non-aggressive behavior. This is the most effective form of training.
It is Important to remember that dogs bite out of fear or protectiveness, so it is important to properly socialize your pet so that they trust people. Expose them to as many environments and situations as possible so as to make them familiar with everything around them. This keeps the calm and happy. Lots of praise and healthy treats can be given while in these new situations to let them know that all is well. Praise them when a stranger approaches and offer a treat as the stranger passes and your pet remains seated and quiet. The stranger could even offer them a treat so that the dog associates strangers with good things.
There are many resources you can turn to that will help you teach your dog to be calm around strangers. Also, any sudden or isolated biting incidents could be related to a medical condition, so a trip to the Veterinarian should rule out that possibility first.

[simpleaffiliate source="chitika" results="0"][/simpleaffiliate] Question about Koehler method?
I have read up on the Koehler method for dog training and have a few questions....
First off, I only want responses from people who currently use this method. No bashers.
Would this be method be good for a 10 week old lab puppy? He is a good dog. Not pottytrained and bites the furniture but overall is just a good normal puppy. Should I train him using the Kohler method. I want a obedient dog, who is loving, and smart. I am afraid that this method will make him afraid of me.... If they need to be 6 months, then what should I do to train him now?
This is not the site to get many informed responses to the Koehler Method of Dog Training.
If you are really interested in REAL information from people that use it and use it properly then I suggest you visit the official website.
http://www.koehlerdogtraining.com
I have witnessed HUNDREDS of Labradors go through our Koehler class, I have seen none that were afraid of their owners either before or after the training.
From the website- Advisory note: There are those who will find this method offensive...so be it; even Jesus Christ couldn't please everybody. But there are many more who would bet the life of their dog on it's result...a reliable off-lead dog.
OVERVIEW
The Koehler Method of Dog Training produces a dog capable of performing the following exercises: Heel, Come, Sit, Down, Stand, and Stay, both on & off-leash in about 13 weeks; all exercises conform to American Kennel Club standards. Your dog will perform these exercises willingly, happily, and with uncompromised reliability. More importantly, the method will provide you with an understanding of canine behaviour unclouded by today's petty insecurities. You will be able to employ this understanding to achieve other training goals. Best of all, you will be able to confidently enjoy the companionship of a well behaved dog.
This is achieved by recognizing your dog as a living, breathing, thinking animal who possesses the God given right of choice. You will learn how to naturally influence his behaviour by concentrating on a sequence of essentials. Your dog will learn from this experience, that his own comfort or discomfort, is the consequential result of the choices he makes...naturally.
I exclusively train Koehler on my dogs and have the awards, titles and perfectly behaved dogs that behave on one command and one only -to show for it.

Introduction Clicker Training for Dogs - Using the Clicker for Train Your Dog
A dog training method called clicker training has become popular over the last several years. Clicker training consist of positive reinforcement training – that is, rewarding the behaviours that we like instead of punishing behaviours that we don’t like. When the dog does what we want him to do, we ‘click’ and give him a treat. So, we train the dog to understand that the ‘click’ means “well done” and that a treat is coming. The reward can be food such as roast beef, petting, playing with a tennis ball, or anything else your dog may enjoy. If you want to use a food reward, you must make sure that you use small pieces of food because you do not want your dog to be preoccupied with eating and forget about the clicker training. Dog Training with a clicker can be more effective rather than positive words such "good dog" because dog are very perceptive to body language and tone of voice so will receive mixed signals depending on what mood you are.
3 Ways to train your using the clicker:
1. Start somewhere with minimal distractions. The first idea is show the dog the meaning of the clicker.Stand in front of him, click ONCE and give a treat. At this point, the dog doesn’t have to do anything for his treat – he just needs to learn the association of the ‘click’ and treat routine. Spend some time doing a ‘click’, then treat. Generally give 1 treat. ALWAYS treat after a click – even if you’ve accidentally clicked. The dog must have absolute faith in the ‘click means treat’ routine.
2. Only click ONCE. Don’t get excited when he does wonderful things and click, click, click, click – this takes the consistency out of the ‘click’ and treat routine.
3. Keep training sessions short around five minutes. Studies shown that establishing reliable behaviors with clicker training requires significantly less time than with standard dog training.
Clicker Training is the only method of dog training can be safely and effectively using positive reinforcement instead the punishment of behaviors. At this point, clicker training is not a universally practiced dog training method but more trainers are using clicker training to teach basic obedience and other classes.

I know theres a couple places that call themselves school. Are any of these scams or something bad? I just want to take a course or do classes to become a dog trainer and I want to know how to do it lol. http://www.animalbehaviorcollege.com/ http://www.k-9companions.com/becometrainer.htm http://cooldogtraining.com/?page_id=132
Personally, I'd find a dog training facility that I liked, and ask to be an apprentice. If they recommend a course, take that course. Not just what you find on the internet.
I have trained dogs for over 30 years, have many performance and conformation titles, and simply learned by taking a lot of classes and seminars, working my dogs and reading all I could about all types of training -- not just dogs, but marine mammals and exotics as well.
Also, thinking back my college classes in psychology (classical and operent conditioning) were very useful too.
I find that I have NO patience for some of the trainers you see at petsmart/petco and similar places. They have no clue and have never even gotten a CD on a dog, and think they know about training.
Read Jean Donaldson's book "Culture Clash" to get you started. Its an eye opener on dog behavior.
Become an apprentice to a good trainer, you'll get much farther and be a far better trainer!

Learn More About Some of the Online Dog Training Courses
Believe it or not you actually have the opportunity to experience a dog training course over the internet, if you choose to do so. Many people have chosen this as a way to help properly train their little pooches and it can work! Some skeptics are probably leery about this type of thing, wondering how in the world this would be at all possible and one of the concerns is the fact that you will not have the opportunity to ask the teacher of the online dog training course any questions. If this too is a real concern for you then the way that you should look at it is, paying a real life hands on instructor is going to cost you much more than taking an online dog training course, where you watch a recorded piece of an instructor providing you with all of the information that you would need to train your dog appropriately.
The really awesome thing that so many people are thrilled about after taking their online dog training course is the fact that they were the ones that had the special opportunity of actually training their beloved dog, not some stranger that they had to pay an enormous amount of money for. Being able to do it yourself by just watching a recorded video, will give you such a good feeling of achievement on your part and the fact that you and your dog are getting the chance to spend that one on one time with each other is just really great and has so many wonderful benefits as well. You and your dog can sit right there in your comfortable home, with comfortable surroundings for both of you and experience this video together, it will definitely be a big learning experience, for you and for your precious dog.
Another wonderful thing about having the ability to watch an online dog training video is the fact that you will have the opportunity to view it as many times as you would want to. So, if your dog does not catch on right away, which they normally do not, you will have many chances to spend quality time with him, teaching him right from wrong and even learning a few cool little tricks with him along the way. He will enjoy it just as much as you will and being able to save yourself some money is always a really great thing right! Dog training is definitely worth any amount of money spent and any amount of your time spent also because your dog will benefit from the experience in so many different ways. You will be so very happy with the results and you will be so excited about showing him off to your friends and family and also being able to inform them that you yourself are responsible for properly training your dog. Everyone will notice the difference the first time that they come around him, after the online dog training course and you will just feel so very proud.

Dog Obedience Training – Essential Elements in Training Dog Behavior
Owning a dog is quite fun and challenging. Dog, as said to be man’s best friend, has its own way to bring joy and happiness in the house. There is even a saying “Quo me amet, amat et canem meam” which means ‘love me, love my dog.’
But currently, lots of people whine about their dogs being extremely aggressive, troublesome, naughty or hard to control. In my opinion, taking care of a dog requires huge commitment and persistence. Because when you end up bringing home this little creature so-called pet, you can’t just leave the dog all by himself. And it is not enough if you only feed your dog with proper dog food regularly. Dog owners should also grab the leash and take their dogs out to play catch and fetch Frisbee, do jogging, even just for an afternoon walk in the park.
Dog owners sometimes ignore these additional elements in taking care of their dogs. They only think about good, comfortable dog crate or house, and its food. As the result, many people complain about their dogs having behavior problems.
As living creatures, dogs also need to get real affection, attention, and space for playing fun activities except the fulfillment of their basic needs. This is probably why dogs might get depressed, stressed, shown by aggression, biting, digging, nipping, barking, growling, chewing, jumping, housetraining, whining, bolting out the front door, separation anxiety, pulling on the leash, and a lot more.
However, you might still encounter those problems on your dog though you think you have spent times doing various activities with your dog. Still, your dog has not shown any sign of obedience yet keep returning to its bad, old behavior.
One of the reasons is that you can’t communicate well with your dog, although you guess you have. Get your dog trained! Training dogs is not that hard, if you know how to do it properly. Some dogs are naturally easy to train, while some are not. One of the leading factors is due to the breed of dog. Different breeds would require different methods and techniques to handle.
If you want to personally train your dog, there are lots of dog training books, e-book, articles and online dog training videos with proven tips and tricks for your dog training. Or else you might consider hiring a professional dog trainer.
For better results, try collecting similar case studies and learn from them - how those dog owners managed to get their dogs well trained and obey the orders given. Simply start from the basic dog obedience training to practice the basic behaviors like Sit, Down, Stay, Recall, Heel.
Get more resources and try more challenges by giving more complicated commands such as play dead when you say ‘Bang!’, Okay and No, Come (Recall), Hold and Leave, Sit and Stay, Seek, Stand, Beg for food, Fetch, Catch food, Shake hands, Crawl, Jump, Rollover, and many more.
Just make sure you know when to give a break and reward your dog for any of its accomplishments. Dogs would love to be rewarded by their owners, even if it is just a simple praise or an extra delicious cookie. By doing so, your dog will always find it fun to learn new things from you.

Nowadays, many families decide to keep animals, such as dogs, cats, mini pigs and so on. These animals can bring happiness to the daily life, accompany old people. But have you ever worried about how to control and train your animals? Dogs are the most common and favorite animal people would like to keep. And training your dogs and making them under your control is a tough task. They are so lovely and naughty. When you have friends come to your house, your dog maybe pounce towards them. On the market, there are various methods to make your dogs listen to your order. But how can you choose? Which is the best choice?Canis clicker training is a method makes use of clicker and treat. It can be a magic way for you to rule your dogs.
What is canis clicker training? The key tool is the device called clicker. It looks like a small matchbox with a metal reed. It can make short sound after pressing the reed. And this training is a positive reinforcement. When your dogs make their behaviors, they will receive your reward. The rewards can some food they favor, such as the slices of meat, cheese and any other they prefer. It is very important for you to choose the right motivation for your dogs. Remember do not always give the same rewards. You can interchange the kind of the rewards. It can provide your dogs the feeling of freshness.
You should also remember some key point of the training. Click and the immediate reward is not a easy job. You should grasp the right time to do it. And during your training, you should avoid punishing your dogs. In addition, you should not use the verbal order at the beginning. Only do it when you are sure that your dogs can understand your meanings.
And at first, you can only teach your dogs to do some simple behaviors, such as sitting, standing and focusing on you. And you should choose some quiet place to start your training. The quiet place is good for your training result because it can avoid your dogs to distract. So the training result would be much better than anywhere else.
What is the history of the clicker training? Clicker training is created by Marian Kruse and Keller Breland. Firstly they trained their pigeons to bowl and then they trained other kinds of animals. So the theory of the clicker training is operant conditioning.
After making use of the canis clicker training, your dogs will behave as you like. And you will feel proud when you become a excellent trainer and show your result before other. Garb A Copy Click here

Is there a reason why people don't use a silent whistle to train their dog for the show ring? I see at the dog shows, German Shepherds, that owners run around the ring while ringing bells to make their dog look good, ears up and proud. Why wouldn't one use a silent whistle for this? It could then actually be used at an all-breed show -- maybe ??
The GSD people do this, it is something called double handling.
The handler is in the ring and someone is outside with bells or other things. It is not supposed to be allowed, but they are the only breed I think that does this much.
Other breeds we just use bait or a squeaky toy to get ears up.
Here is a link that explains Double Handling in more detail

What Trainings are Involved in Rescue Dog Training
There are plenty of reasons why dogs are considered best friends of men, and one of these reasons is their usefulness in emergency situations. Just like it happens with agility and obedience training, rescue dog training requires for a few principles to be observed.
Training Their Obedience
One trait of rescue dogs is constant obedience since they can't do their jobs if they don't do as they're told. They should be used to obey commands like sit, heel, stay, come and jog exercises. All these should be met, so their handlers can be sure that their commands will be respected when it's needed.
Training Their Agility
Not just sports dogs need to be agile, but also dogs that are trained to rescue other people. At its most basic level, rescue dogs will be helped by agility training at the physical level, letting them do even the hardest tasks. This can come in handy when they're rescuing people. If they're trained by someone that knows their job, a dog that goes through agility training will be able to surpass many obstacles that he might encounter.
Retrieving
Retrieving is a huge part of any rescue operation. A dog needs to be able to retrieve either items or even a person from a place where other people can't go in. If you want a dog to be able to retrieve a person, he will need to go through retrieving exercises. He will learn how to retrieve anything, from leather, to wood or even an injured person, all by using the command "fetch".
Training On The Right Positioning
One part of rescue training teaches the dog how to adapt to different exercises, and that part is positioning. Positioning training is achieved both with compulsive and inductive training.
Positioning training should be something that is taught from the time that he's still a puppy. He needs to learn to types of positioning: the front position and the heel. The heel position teaches the dog to stand near the trainer, parallel to his left foot. The front position teaches him to sit in front of the trainer, aligned with the front legs of the trainer.
You can teach a dog to adopt the right position in two ways. The inductive and the compulsive method.
The compulsive way, when used to train the dog how to adopt the front position will teach him how to sit in the front of the handler. If you use it together with an order like "sit", the same principle is used - the owner needs to help the pet stand, then sit in front of him. The position needs to be parallel to the owner's left foot if he asks for the heel position.
If we're talking about the inductive method, it will need the use of food or treats to teach the dog how to respond to the owner's commands to assume one of the two positions. One example of the inductive method is offering the pet a treat before you give him an order. If he accepts the treat, give him an order like sit, come or down right before giving him the treat. Remember, offer it, but give it only after the does the command.
If you're using the compulsive method, you might use some physical guidance, but you should never use it in a way that might injure the dog. Don't make it harsh, use it gently and firmly. If you're harsh, that could harm the training.
If you're training a rescue dog, you should know that it's not a single thing they need to learn. It's a mix of different commands and abilities that they need to learn.

San Diego Pedestrian Accident Lawyer’s Top Ten Things You Don’t Want to Hear in the Hospital After a San Diego Pedestrian Accident
1. Well, you look like you went fifteen rounds with the heavyweight champion. A truck hit you or do you always look this bad?
2. I can’t say I ever remember one person with more fractures.
3. We’re going to have to quarantine you.
4. I hope you’ve had all your vaccinations.
5. A few shots in the buttocks and when the pain starts to set in, you’ll think even the food in the cafeteria looks good.
6. They don’t call me Doctor for nothing. Still, in over fifty years of practice, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite like that.
7. Why didn’t you come right in instead of waiting out there for six hours. You could have gone into shock. Actually, you may be going into shock right now, by the way you look.
8. We’ve got the results of your blood test back and they are a real doozy.
9. And you say that’s been itching for how long?
10. Sorry, we mixed up your X-rays. Still the guy next door is relieved. As for you, though....
Now here are ten actual tips of advice from a San Diego pedestrian accident lawyer to follow if you have been in an accident. You can also learn more about how to handle a personal injury in San Diego, or any city, by calling the Law Offices of R. Sebastian Gibson at any of the numbers which can be found on our website at http://www.SebastianGibsonLaw.com and learning how we can assist you.
Obviously, if you have had an accident, and you are reading all of this advice, it may have been a few hours since the accident. However, if you ever have another accident, or if it’s only been a few hours since you were hurt, here’s what you should do from the start.
First, take a look around and determine if you or anyone, are hurt. If so, taking steps like trying to prevent further injury or loss of blood are the most important thing you can do. Even if some other driver caused you to be injured, it’s just good manners to help the other driver if they are hurt. They may even be so thankful that they admit their fault to you. The worst thing you can do is get angry or start a fight.
Second, make sure everyone is safe from being injured further. If you are in the middle of traffic, and you are dizzy, sit down away from traffic. If your vehicle is a traffic hazard and you have accident warning devices like flares or triangles, put them out on the road to warn other drivers and get away from the car. Let the police an other emergency personnel investigate the scene with the vehicles in place and move them more safely at a later point.
Third, call the police. Accident reports are extremely helpful if the police will do such a report. Let the police know you are injured immediately. Answer the police questions honestly. But if you are dazed or confused, let them know you need medical treatment and answer only what you feel sure about. Remember, your statements can and will be used against you if you admit fault, and it will be too late and too fishy to later say you didn’t know what you were saying at the scene. Police know that your best recollection is immediately after an accident.
Fourth, get the other driver’s information including their names, addresses, driver’s license numbers, make and model of their vehicles, license plate numbers, and their insurance company name and policy number. If there are witnesses, get their names, addresses and telephone numbers as well. If the other driver makes any admissions of fault, write those down as well.
Fifth, if you have a camera on your cell phone or in the car and you aren’t too injured, take some photos of the vehicles and the scene. If you can’t do it right away, do it after you are released from the hospital.
Sixth, if you are hurt, obtain medical treatment. Don’t decline the ambulance or hospital examination to save your insurance company money or to be stoic. Take your valuables out of your car if you can and get checked out at the hospital. If you are not hurt, don’t get treatment you don’t need. However, remember, after an accident, you may feel a rush of adrenaline that causes you to only start feeling symptoms of pain a few hours later. If you have a health plan that requires you to obtain permission first, call them and find out where you are allowed to seek treatment.
Seventh, call a good San Diego pedestrian accident attorney as soon as you have had your initial treatment, so the lawyer can gather other important evidence and prevent the insurance company from taking advantage of you and obtaining such things as recorded statements that you feel fine, when many of your symptoms have yet to manifest themselves. A good San Diego pedestrian accident lawyer can save you from making a great deal of mistakes and can shoulder much of the hassle of knowing what to do about car repairs, car rentals, medical treatment, witness statements and the like. If you think you will save money by not having an attorney, think again. A good San Diego pedestrian accident lawyer can almost always obtain much higher settlements, obtain reductions of medical bills and insurance liens and prevent you from making costly mistakes. Also, most San Diego pedestrian accident attorneys advance costs of obtaining police reports, medical records and the like and are paid and reimbursed for these costs only out of any settlement.
Eight, you will need to report the accident to your insurance company, but since they will want to take a recorded statement from you, just like any other driver’s insurance company, it’s good advice to retain an attorney first. And if the other driver did not have insurance, remember that it is your own insurance company that will be your adversary. You will also need to report the accident to the Department of Motor Vehicles and your lawyer can give you the form for this.
Ninth, do not agree to settle your claim privately with the person at fault for the accident. This almost never works out to your advantage. Don’t agree not to call the police. Police reports that determine the fault for an accident are golden. Your agreement to not involve the police only affords an opportunity for the other driver to change his story and blame you when the police will no longer investigate the accident.
Tenth, don’t pay a traffic ticket without a fight if you weren’t at fault or agree to accept a small payment for your vehicle repairs without knowing that the amount will in fact cover the cost of all the repairs.

[simpleaffiliate source="chitika" results="0"][/simpleaffiliate] service dogs in training?
I know some states give service dogs in training the same public access rights as a certified dog.
I'm a trainer in South Carolina, and our laws give SDIT public access. Im about to start traveling up to NY and other places and my current trainee will be going with me.
does anyone have a list of the states that give dogs in training the same access rights? I know not many states allow it yet. I'm a trainer, not a client. so states that dont give the dogs in training public access can stop me from coming in.
SC is one of the states that says all dogs in training have full public access. Ok I feel the need to say that I got into service dog training at 16 years old and I am currently 18.
sooo am I super experienced? absolutely not. There are no need for rude comments.
and yes I understand, that it is me that has the right to take in the dog... but for it to be easier for people to understand, its best to say the dog.
Most states that do permit public access for SDITs require the person with the dog to be a trainer from a recognized program.
Is there a list? No. You'll have to look up each state individually. There just isn't a need in the community for such a list since each state is different and has different restrictions on training. A list of those states that permit SDIT access wouldn't necessarily permit it for ALL trainers and if you put in all the restrictions the list would turn into a nightmare.
Here's a wad of service dog laws organized by state that you can wade through: http://servicedogcentral.org/content/node/51
You should also be getting permission from the program you are raising for to take the pup out of state.
To the person claiming to be an experienced SD trainer, yet doesn't know how to find SDIT laws: your inexperience is showing. Those of us who have been around the block have learned how to do these things as a matter of business. Do I have every single state memorized? No. But I can lay my hands on the information from any state in less than five minutes flat.

Puppy Classes / Early Socialization and Training, Consumer Reports
Dog trainers and their suppliers are endlessly coming up with new and innovative tool boxes for training purposes. These new dog training tools, while attractive in nature, should not be a substitute for basic training knowledge.
The first step in dog training is ensuring your dog is in good health. Gentle collars and relaxed training regiments can be harmful if the dog has unknown open sores or twisted paws.
Clickers
One of the best ways to gain a dog’s attention is through a clicker device. This is a hand-held device which fits into the palm of a hand. Loud ‘click-clack’ noises are emitted when a button is pressed and released. The main function behind this is preserving the trainers’ voice from repeating commands over and over again. The audible sound is detectible by dogs even in common surrounding background noises.
The clicker can be used to attract a dog’s attention. The common uses are as a reward or ‘begin’ sound when the dog exhibits a desired behavior.
Leashes and Collars
The dog leash market covers everything from two-foot control leashes to 30 foot extendable and retractable nylon cord variations.
A two to four foot leash is ideal for near training situations such as training to ‘sit’ or ‘stay’. An extendable leash is ideal for when trainers want to obey their dog. Regardless of the distance between dog and trainer, the trainer should always maintain the ‘alpha male’ position and thus always lead.
Like leashes, dog collars come in many variations. Be sure that all snaps, buttons and nylon material is in quality condition. This makes the collars suitable for even large dogs. Adjust the collars to allow the dog enough room to move its head around but not enough room to easily slip through and escape.
This trainer does not endorse the use of spike collars. These can easily damage a small dog and instill fear in large dogs. All breeds of dogs have strong neck muscles. One sharp tug of a choke collar however can bruise or damaged this area. Worst case is causing a collapse of the trachea. One common mistake is placing the choke collar on backwards. For these reasons, choke collars are counter-productive and often dangerous.
Vests
Much like leashes, chest halters and full vests strengthen a trainer’s hold over the dog. There is no excess pressure placed on the dog’s throat while the trainer maintains the hold advantage.
The only drawback to a vest training device is that no dog experiences discomfort from pulling. Therefore training is limited with this device to positive reinforcement behaviors. In fact, chest halters actually encourage pulling by the dog. This is discouraged behavior.
When extra control over a strong willed dog is needed, collars and leashes will not effectively serve this purpose.
Muzzles
Muzzles are effective in dealing with short term barking and biting control issues. The only drawback here is that the dog does not obtain another means in which to stop barking. Unless the muzzle is always present, the barking will continue to be an issue. The muzzle takes the training place of voice commands such as ‘no bark’.
Other devices exist on the market such as no-bark collars; electric fences and chemical sprays. However, these are used more as control devices than effective training tools.
Above all, the most effective training tools can not be found on the market. There is no substitute for giving your dog simple love and respect. Treating the dog like the loving part of the family will produce desired behavior quickly and more effectively than any training device.
