Dog obedience training is one of the most important ways you can show your love for your dog. Contrary to public opinion, obedience training is not some method by which a dog learns to perform some necessary but artificial activity on command. One very good reason for implementing obedience training is to establish a foundation from which you and your dog will learn to successfully relate to one another.
Most behavioral problems are correctable with proper instruction and patient, consistent training by the dog owner. Obedience training doesn't solve all behavior problems, but it is the foundation for solving just about any problem. The key to preventing or treating behavior problems is learning to teach the dog to redirect his natural behavior to outlets that are acceptable in the domestic setting.
Training your dog involves a routine of rules that the dog is expected to follow. Training opens up a line of communication between you and your dog. Training dogs should be fun, enriching and bond-building for both of you, if it isn't, then you need to learn more about reward-based dog training for the benefit of both of you. Dogs are social animals and without proper training, they will behave like animals.
A good trainer will never use food as the ONLY inducement for making a dog obedient, but if your slow performer peps up when you give food, use it to overcome problems. Obedience-trained dogs have an easier life than their untrained peers. For a dog to be considered obedient rather than simply trained in obedience, it must respond reliably each time the command is given, by what is commonly known as its handler.
Dogs are pack animals and are genetically programmed to enjoy following a benevolent leader. When your dog obeys a simple request of "come here, sit," she is showing compliance and respect for you. Effective communication is necessary when giving your dog obedience training. This is to instruct your dog about what you want them to do. Remember, an obedient dog is a happy dog.
Obedience training is the key to having a dog that is an enjoyable pet. Obedience training is one of the best things you can do for your dog or puppy and yourself. Obedience training is the key to reliable, responsible off-leash dogs. In fact, obedience training is critical in nurturing the most positive aspects of human-animal relationship. Dog obedience training is the basis for you and your best friend to have a long and happy life together. Whether your dog is young or old, large or small, calm or hyper, obedience training is a positive step toward lifelong dog and owner happiness.

Over the years, it has become increasingly easier to commit special events in your life to film. From the introduction of moving pictures, people have been avid fans of being able to create their own memories by making movies of their homes, families, vacations, and, of course, their pets. Dog owners, in particular, get special pleasure from getting their pet dogs to do tricks and other cute things for the camera.
Now that everyone in the world who can afford them has access to video cameras, web cameras, and even cell phones that can record videos, most people can become their own film makers. As pet dogs are generally considered members of the family rather than just pets, many people choose to make movies or videos of them as well as their other family members. Some of the best videos in existence are dog videos.
It's been proved throughout time that dogs make wonderful companions and provide much love and affection to their owners. They are very loyal and can be trained to do many helpful things. Seeing eye dogs have been vital to the blind for many years. Older people who would otherwise be living alone own dogs to be their companions as well as offer protection. This does not count the families who simply feel their children will benefit from having a dog to care for and love.
Dog videos are made for pleasure and to create memories. They are also made to use as instructional training videos for those who want to teach their dogs how to do different things. These include tricks, obedience, and other useful abilities. The need for these videos is just as strong as the need for families and individuals to have pet dogs. They serve the purpose of putting these dogs on film and commemorating them forever.
Think of how it will be to enjoy and learn from these dog videos for years to come. You will come to understand how important it can be to have a pet dog as part of your household. The memories that these videos will bring back to life in full color are going to make you smile and laugh out loud each time you watch them. Passing along these videos to share with others is a wonderful legacy to leave those you care about.
Anyone who has had the experience of owning and loving a dog will appreciate just how important shooting videos of their pet will be some day. If you are a trainer, making dog videos that show how to teach a dog tricks or obedience can be an invaluable talent. Many people will appreciate not only your video, but the time and dedication you took to put the video together. About the Author

How To Use Anchor Text Backlinks For Improved Google Rankings
One of the keys to getting higher search engine rankings is the proper use of one way anchor text backlinks for both internal linking (linking between pages on your site) and external linking (linking to your site from someone else's site).
One way anchor text backlinks are basically just clickable text links. Here is the definition right from Wikipedia, "the anchor phrase, a link label or link title is the visible, clickable text in a hyperlink. The words contained in the Anchor text can determine the ranking that page will receive by search engines."
These clickable keywords, or anchor links, make it easier on search engine robots to determine what the site the text is linking to is actually about. So whether linking between pages on your own site or linking from other sites, use the proper anchor phrase and link to the appropriate pages on your site.
To illustrate this let's say you have a page on your site specifically about wiener dog training. You've optimized the site like we've talked about by putting "wiener dog training" in your meta tags and the other strategic places we've discussed, so when the search engine robots scan your site they know that page is about wiener dog training. Now to further support the on page work you've already done, you need an incoming link from another site, but not just any link. You need a link from a related web site using the text "wiener dog training."
We're really getting rolling here. I hope your enjoying the content by our Atlanta SEO experts. Remember to always use one way anchor text backlinks for any linkbuilding campaigns you do. This is vital to your success.

I ordered two remote control shock collars to help train my dog. They are a 25lb corgi and a 40lb beagle. I shocked myself with it to test and it was a bit strong, and when I've had to shock the beagle she jumps and cries so I am really afraid to shock the corgi. I cant afford a new set of collars, is there anything I can put on the prongs to make them feel the shock less? It came with plastic covers for the shockers and those are on, but maybe some sort of tape or fabric I can put over?? Any ideas? Thanks. I have taken both dogs into obedience training and talked to several trainers. None of them have been able to solve the barking issues.
Get your money back on the collars and hire a dog trainer. Your dogs will be happier and they'll be much better trained.

[simpleaffiliate source="chitika" results="0"][/simpleaffiliate] is the only way to potty train a dog crate training?
is there any other way isnt it cruel to have the puppy locked up or will it get used to it also when do you stop using the crate altogether
any other way to potty train a puppy so is the point of using the crate so the puppy will hold it untill you take him out and then in the end will get the point not to go inside OH i will crate train my puppy now i thought it meant leave the dog in there all day and only take it out for potty but 1more question when its in the crate at night how many times do i have to take it outside
Using a crate to potty train a puppy is a good idea and works for a few reasons:
A puppy is less likely to soil the place it sleeps, so he will try to "hold it."
When you take the pup outside to potty, do it on a leash and stay with him. When he potties give him at least three special treats and praise him. (Always wait a couple of minutes more because sometimes poop comes 2 minutes after pee.)
****This teaches the dog that he can score/earn a jackpot of treats if he potties OUTSIDE. The treats need to be special. If he is really young he should only be fed his kibble/dog food EXCEPT for food treats when he goes potty.
The result is the pup learning that the best place---the only place---to potty is outside where he gets lots of treats and praise.
If you take him out before and after meals and playtime and as soon as he gets out of the crate he won't have an opportunity to have an accident in the house.
Using the crate makes potty training a positive experience for the puppy---he is never scolded for eliminating and so you'll never need to worry about having a dog that pees in a corner because he knows you might yell at him for peeing.
It works very well----and it DOES NOT mean locking the pup all day---just when you can't be right with him to see if he starts to do any suspicious sniffing. As long as you take him out often enough it shouldn't be a problem. (I think a 3 month old pup can hold it for a couple of hours---there is a chart about this online.)
I used this method on my dog and the only pee accident we ever had was when he developed an infection----which is perfectly understandable. He never did #2 in the house.
Good luck!
PS Play and fun in the yard should happen AFTER the potty and you can try again before you go in. Potty in the yard before you go on a walk.
If the dog learns that playtime and walks start after potty is over they are going to go faster and get it over with. Dogs that learn the walk stops or outside time ends when they potty will hold it outside as long as they can---a fact you will not like when you are trying to get the dog to go quickly so you can dash off to an appointment.

Hello
I live in Sydney Australia. And need to find a place that will alllow pets as I have a small dog which i love and whom is very much attached to myself.
could someone tell me of website that list properties which allow pets? My dog is tolilet trained and quite but I am having trouble finding somewhere for us to stay help!
any website that you can recommend would be most welcome!
http://www.realestate.com.au is a good site.
Often they won't say pets allowed but if you call them they will agree to pets esp if the dog is only small. You have a better chance with houses than with apartments too.
It can also help if you can provide a reference for your pet from a previous landlord. It will just give them piece of mind that you are a good dog owner. Also try offering more bond as security in the case of dog related damage.

Dog training collars have been around since the late 20th century. They have not gained wide acceptance at the early stages due to their limited options and quite often drastic measures of application. Over time collars have become more and more favorable as quality of the products drastically changed, spectrum of options grew, as well as the ease of use. As dog training collars were slowly emerging from the surface as a product that "works", manufacturers continued on implementing better electronics, better material, and made these collars superior over majority of orthodox training techniques.
Dog training collars come in countless styles, from the most basic types such us choke collars, or otherwise known as "slip" collars, to multiple remote controlled dog training collars which aid in training more than one pet. Whatever the need, consumers have realized that options are endless in today's society, and that can often be a troublesome experience. Not only are there tens of different types, but tens of various manufacturers for every type, with each developer promising the highest rate of training success. Not to mention the emerging hunting market which is growing very rapidly with new dog training collars for almost anything. With this in mind, consumers today face a much more difficult decision than ever before, with the growing popularity of training collars, they have to decide if to use them, and if so, which product is better.
Dog training collars can be somewhat broken up into a few categories. The first would be the simplest type, such as choke collars (slip collars). These types are exceptional for training a dog how to act and behave during a walk. Consumers have enough stress in their lives as it is, and the added stress of a dog jumping on people, pulling back and forth is something one should be able to minimize. The second type would be the basic training collars, which are in most cases controlled by a remote. These types are an excellent resource if one aims in teaching their best friend the simplest commands, such as sit, come, heel, or minimize barking etc. The third type would be the advanced training collars. These are also controlled by a remote, but with a multitude of added options, have much more range, but in most cases are a bit more expensive. Advanced collars are an exceptional tool for those seeking for a more professional obedience training. Multiple dog training collars would be considered a fourth type. This product works in the same manner as an advanced or a basic training collar system, with the addition of more than one collar to a remote. With this type of system, a trainer can teach obedience of more than one dog, or as a matter of fact, use to control more than one hunting dog. This introduces the last but not least type, the hunting dog training collar system. Again these types are equipped with most of the features one would get from an advanced system, but with the focus of a few other options to aid in training a dog to be a good hunting partner.
Every individual that owns a canine knows the importance of having a well behaved and smart dog. An obedient and intelligent dog makes the experience of having a four legged best friend much more exciting and enjoyable. A well trained pet is one that can be taken anywhere, an animal that can be trusted anywhere. Dog training collars give that specific advantage of making ones loyal friend trustworthy, friendly and safe. Although there are countless of techniques of getting obedience training for a pet, from acquiring the needed skills from books and other information references, sending a dog to obedience schools, and teaching with the aid of training collars, the highly growing in popularity is the dog training collar system.
Dog training collar system tends to be a more expensive initial investment if choosing other than a choke collar, but one that pays itself off very quickly. For instance, books are a very inexpensive technique, but require a lot of time to learn and initiate all the required actions. Although books/videos tend to be the least expensive technique, they require a lot of time, and in these days, very rarely does anyone have the time to spend countless weeks in teaching a dog simple commands like sit, heel etc, let alone anything more advanced, and as everyone knows, time is money. Providing that necessary time to train a dog using orthodox methods usually referenced from books/vides requires eliminating that time from sometimes more important tasks such as work, or family time.
On the other hand, sending a dog or a puppy to an obedience school quite often requires the same amount of investment as a training collar. Not to mention that that dog will not be trained by the owner, but by someone else which often the dog will not be able to refer back to the owner. Even choosing obedience schools where the owner takes part in the training, again that can get expensive and time consuming. In addition, that style of training once is over cannot be done over again unless one is willing to pay more. Dog training collar system, although seemingly expensive at the initial stage, saves much precious time in comparison to other techniques, but also allows it to be used over and over, or even sold used, saving money. Although some believe that training collars are a very unfriendly form of dog obedience schooling, in reality these systems are very safe. Any equipment that is used in an abusive manner can be unsafe. Dog training collars are meant to teach a dog to behave rather than punish them, and if used in the manner shown, such collars will help teach a pet to be a very smart and obedient family member.
In conclusion, dog training collars are an exceptional utility that is not only very safe, practical and effective, but also very time efficient and in the long run an investment that pays for itself. With the wide range of options and styles available on the market, every dog owner will have no trouble finding one for the required task. One should always remember, that before purchasing a training collar, one should acquire advice from an expert, not just a summer time student working at some pet store.

Why does my fully house trained dog poop in the house?
I have a three year old border collie. She is fully house trained and never went to the bathroom in the house until a month ago. I did some research and i found that if you put the dog in a kennel and only let them out for potty breaks and to eat/drink it eliminates the chance for them to go anywhere but outside. Well, I have been "kennel training" her for two weeks now and she still goes in the house! Should I kennel train her longer? Could it be a medical condition? Or does she just like to tick me off? Any help would be much appreciated! We have been remodeling our unfinished basement. It started shortly after remodeling began. She is outside often and my kids are home most of the day. She usually goes inside when we are home. When we leave she is outside in our fenced in backyard. And usually within 30 minutes of coming inside the house she goes.
Dogs are sometimes complicated..you have to think...do I spend enough timre with her??....Do I need to give her a better environment??....Well all I can say is that maybe the w your training her is not right ...do you reward her enough??....Spend alot of time withher and when you go and take her out to poo make sure you have some fun with ehr a little because maybe she will enjoy being outside and get used to the fact that when you go outside with her she'll have some play time and get rewarded!...I know alot about dogs and puppies so if you need help just e-mail me =]

John Cooper and his guide dog, Faith received a nasty shock when they fell into a three foot pothole two weeks ago. They were walking down Gateshead Road in Hertfordshire where a pothole was left open without barriers when the incident happened.
Due to the lack of barriers, Faith missed the hazard. While she is trained to recognise signals such as cones and barriers she was unable to prevent Mr Cooper from falling into the open pothole.
The pair both suffered minor injuries and discomfort after falling into the hole which was full of sewage. Mr Cooper says he feels lucky not to have been more seriously injured.
The accident comes just weeks after a partially sighted man, 93 year old Jack Gardener, received £8,500 compensation after experiencing a similar accident in the same area.
Mr Gardener tripped on an uneven paving stone in Shenley Road, after which he suffered injuries and pursued an accident claim against Hertfordshire County Council.
Mr Cooper’s accident is believed to be the fault of engineering company Balfour Beatty, who were carrying out engineering work at the time. Balfour Beatty are carrying out an investigation into what happened.
Mr Cooper spoke of his and Faith’s experience:
“I went to A&E and had to have injections for tetanus and diphtheria. It is not life-threatening and I will recover, but I have leg injuries, cuts and bruises. We had to take Faith to the vet. We have been together for five-and-a-half years and have not had an accident before.”

Dog Training | Dog Training Tips | How to Train Your Dog
Some Basic Tips for Dog Training
A few basic principles should be applied by every dog owner when training their dog. Each one of these basic principles can make the training process easier and more successful.
Train your dog to be comfortable in a crate: Many people believe crate training is cruel, but that belief could not be farther from the truth. Your dog will come to love his crate as his own private little "home." There are two essential keys to successful crate training: never use your dog's crate to punish him; and stay home with your dog inside the crate while he's still getting acclimated. Crate training can make housebreaking your dog much easier as well as help reduce canine anxiety issues and incessant barking.
Train your dog to walk on a leash: If your dog pulls or lags behind while walking on a leash, you'll want to teach him to calm down. Once he learns to be calmer, he'll respond to your commands without getting overly excited about going on a walk. Most dogs with poor leash manners are allowed to pull whenever they want to. Put a halt to this bad habit by making your dog sit and wait by your side calmly before you resume walking. He'll quickly learn pulling means the walk will stop abruptly.
Establish yourself as your dog's pack leader: The most important lesson your dog can learn is that he's subordinate and you're the alpha "dog" (the leader) in your household "pack." Your dog won't understand what you want him to do until you teach him. Teach him that you're his leader, and that you're always in control. Once he understands his subordinate position within the pack, he'll relax and obey your commands much better.
Dog obedience classes can be your best friends: You'll learn the best dog training tips available by attending formal obedience training classes with your dog. Obedience classes can teach you how to maintain your alpha status, control your dog and give him commands he'll listen to. An obedience training class is an excellent supplement for training your dog at home, whether you're having difficulty controlling an older dog or you have a brand new puppy.
Consistency is a Vital Part of Dog Training
Whether they're basic or advanced, all dog training tips emphasize the need for consistency. Your dog might seem bright, and in many ways he probably is. Remember, though, that most of what he learns is in response to consistent repetitions of his lessons. For instance, if you want your dog to sit before letting him outside, make him sit each and every time. You'll just confuse him if you only make him sit when you have extra time available. In other words, if you set a rule for him to follow, make him follow it every time - never let him slide. You'll also need to make sure everyone else in your house makes him follow the rules consistently. Training your dog effectively can be tougher on you than on your dog, but it's worth the effort.

The Art of Picking a Puppy for Schutzhund Training
For a working dog to earn a prestigious Schutzhund title, he must excel in obedience, tracking and protection. So, how can you determine the ability of a playful, young puppy for such a demanding specialty?
If for example, you have a litter of Doberman puppies, you notice as they grow from week to week, that they have different personalities and positions in the group. The bigger pups get to the food dish first. Some like to instigate play fighting and some are "barkers". Some puppies are shy and some are curious to explore. Observing their play behaviors is good way to start assessing the pups potential for Schutzhund training.
There is an aptitude test that is available to use as a guideline for testing puppies. It scores specific criteria based on a scale of 1 to 6. Even before testing a puppy, it is important to examine his physical structure because physical soundness is necessary for the rigorous training.
When a puppy is around 8 weeks old, testing can begin. The first test is for Social Attraction. It indicates confidence or dependence. The tester moves away from the pup and kneels down, then calls the puppy to him. The tester is looking for the puppy to come to him readily, tail up and may even paw and lick at the testers hands.
The next test is Following Attraction. If the tester walks away from the puppy, and the puppy does not follow, it shows a degree of independence. The puppy should follow, tail up and may even get underfoot. This shows interest in the tester and a lack of fear.
Restraint shows the degree of dominant or submissive tendencies. The handler should kneel down and gently roll the puppy on his back and hold him for 30 seconds. No struggle and avoiding eye contact shows the pup to be too submissive for Schutzhund training. A better result would be for the puppy to settle, then struggle a bit, then settle again with some eye contact.
Social Dominance can be shown by gently rubbing the puppy from head to toe while crouched beside him. He may try to dominate by jumping and nipping. A less desirable response would be the puppy rolling over and licking the hand of the tester.
For Schutzhund trials, a working dog must be accepting of dominance by his handler while in a position of no control. To test a puppy for this characteristic, bend down and cradle the puppy under his belly with fingers interlaced. Lift him just off the ground and hold him for 30 seconds. This test is called Elevation Dominance. A potential problem result would be if the pup struggles fiercely, bites or growls at the handler. He should be able to relax.
A Retrieving test demonstrates the willingness of the puppy to work with a human. There is a high correlation between the ability to retrieve and successful guide dog, obedience and field trial dogs
Touch Sensitivity can be evaluated by taking the webbing on one front paw between finger and thumb and pressing gently. While squeezing the toe, count slowly. Stop as soon as the puppy shows discomfort. A higher count shows a lesser degree of sensitivity to touch.
It is possible to determine the Sound Sensitivity of a pup by standing a few feet away and hitting a metal pan with a big metal spoon. If the puppy looks, locates the sound and walks toward it to investigate, the puppy will not be jumpy or easily startled.
A final test is a Sight Sensitivity test which demonstrates the degree of intelligent response to a new or unfamiliar object. A string is tied to a large towel and yanked across the floor a few feet in front of the puppy. Some puppies will attack and bite the towel and some will look curiously and investigate. A pup that barks and tail tucks or runs away will not be a good candidate for Schutzhund.
This is a general overview of the criteria used to evaluate working breed puppies for Schutzhund training. There is really no perfect score as each handler will have his own preferences in what he wants in a puppy and what characteristics are important to him.
An important factor not scored by a test is a good connection between puppy and handler. A trusting relationship between the two is crucial because of the intense training required to achieve a working title at all levels. A trusting relationship also insures the puppy will want to please his handler so they will be able to work well together toward the same goal. Schutzhund training is a long term commitment between dog and handler to achieve excellence.
Dogs have served as protectors and companions for many centuries and although most dogs are good at alerting when there is a potential intruder in the vicinity, there are some specific breeds of dogs that are best suited for acting as guard dogs. These breeds include the Doberman, the German Shepherd, the American Bulldog and the Rottweiler. Protector dogs differ from watchdogs in that they have been bred to be very territorial and aggressive and in a situation involving an intrusion or danger to a household or their family they will respond with aggression to protect their territory or human pack members. This makes these dogs ideal for protecting property and people.
Dobermans are highly intelligent and elegant dogs. Their athletic build makes them well suited for responding with speed to any perceived threats. While experts are unsure of their ancestry, Dobermans make ideal guard dogs. Dobermans are extremely loyal dogs that generally have a very stable temperament but it is important to carefully select a good bloodline from a reputable breeder as the breed is prone to being high strung and nervous, so choosing a dog from a bloodline that has proven itself as being of good temperament is crucial.
German Shepherds have been used for protection for many years and they are so good at their role that many police forces around the world use German Shepherds in various branches of police work. German Shepherds are well known for their high intelligence and they are considered to be one of the most intelligent dogs which makes them very easy to train. German Shepherd dogs (GSD) have very protective instincts and they make great family pets with the proper amount of training and socialization. Choosing a good bloodline and enrolling your pup in obedience training classes at an early age will result in a protective dog that is both loyal and obedient.
American Bulldogs are medium sized dogs with a stocky and muscular body and a rather quirky appearance but don't let that fool you, these dogs make excellent guard dogs. Bred for their strength and stamina, American Bulldogs are known for their persistence and courage. American Bulldogs are naturally playful and curious and require proper socialization to develop into obedient and well behaved dogs and to render them less stubborn and willful. With proper training these dogs make endearing protective companions that will never cease to amaze you with their interesting personalities.
Rottweilers are among the most famous protector breeds and with their large, muscular and intimidating build, it comes as no surprise that these dogs are often used in police work and guarding. The Rottweiler is an ancient breed that was originally used to protect and herd livestock and this can be seen in their intense protective nature. They are very intelligent dogs that are highly trainable but they require an assertive owner. Proper obedience training at an early age makes these dogs excellent family pets and they can be extremely child friendly and fun loving despite negative media the breed has been receiving. Care should be taken to select a pup from a reputable breeder who has been breeding dogs that are even tempered and manageable. Novice owners may find the breed a bit of a handful as these dogs need professional training and constant supervision as they are prone to dominance issues and will constantly challenge for position.
Qualities desirable in guard dogs also make them aggressive and potentially dangerous so it is crucial to provide these dogs with proper training and socialization if they are to develop into reliable canine citizens. Most of the negative misconceptions surrounding these dogs are due to inexperienced owners not providing proper time and training to these dogs. Given proper training, these breeds of dogs will not think twice of sacrificing themselves to protect you, your family and your property. They are truly worthy of our admiration and respect and should be treated as such.

Attack Guard Dog Training Ass Whoooping!!(www.k9-1.com)
Puppies are all exceptionally cute and adorable. Who doesn't cherish puppies? Although they are extremely sweet, they are not born fully trained in any respect. Many people need advice about puppy training, biting basically, because puppy dogs simply want to chew and bite constantly. Puppies don't bite because they are being agressive, they bite because it really is their own way of communicating as well as a kind of play for him or her. Let's admit it, puppies have extremely sharp teeth!
Puppy training for biting should be done regularly and properly. There are some suggested methods to cease new puppy biting. Dogs generally speaking believe us as part of their pack. So they'll respond to noises as well as movements which are similar to one of their own reacting to them. For example, whenever a puppy dog is biting you, a quick "yipe" from you will get their instant awareness and quit that behavior right away. Just like The Dog Whisperer, Cesar Millan, teaches all of us frequently on t.v., a verbal "cht" sound whenever said strongly stops the particular puppy's inappropriate routine instantly. Being consistent is the vital thing to every puppy dog training technique.
Quite a few people while playing with their young puppies automatically use "mouth play" given that they just think it is entertaining to have the puppy chase your hands or feet as well as pounce at them with their mouths. It's important to in its place frequently do the yipe noise or perhaps cht sound when your puppy's mouth touches human skin whether it is painful at that time or not.
Another technique with regard to puppy training for biting would be the "Close your mouth" option. This method requires a bit more time, is safe to perform with the majority of dogs, but needs to be used with patience plus caution. When a puppy is biting, merely hold his or her mouth shut for 15 seconds (begin with only 5 seconds so you don't scare the dog) and while executing that, speak encouragement to the puppy by saying "Close your mouth (puppy's name), GOOD BOY/GIRL, close your mouth!" Make sure the dog doesn't bite her own lip or tongue using this method. What this does is teach the dog the precise words for this action. Subsequently, eventually you just need to use the words and the puppy will always be closing its mouth for you.
When training when using the close your mouth method, you need to perform when in a quiet atmosphere with minimal distractions. Puppies get distracted and excited quite easily. There are at a minimum two advantages of this approach - one being that it helps your puppy become comfortable with someone controlling its mouth, and the other one is the totally obvious, she or he ceases biting.
Another method that works well is very simple redirection. If a puppy dog is trying to bite your hand, simply redirect the biting toward a chew toy. At the same time, discourage the harmful behavior and when your dog gets his mouth on the appropriate chew toy, give him / her praise.
The main thing to remember is to always be patient, be consistent and to persistently reinforce positive behavior. Dogs act in response 100 times greater with positive reinforcement.

Does the gentle leader really work? I have a dog whom I've done obedience with and have used training collars?
Pinch collars etc. My dog really pulls. So much so that I've been dragged down the street more than once. My vet recently recommended the gentle leader. I'm just curious as to if this really works. My dog is very well behaved except on walks. I'm hoping you all can tell me if its worth the money.
Totally WORTH the money!!!
I have had great success with gentle leaders, I have a 130 lb rescued wolf dog and a 115 lb rescued german shep. and I walk both of them with ease..it really is like walking horses :) lol, they see the gentle leaders come out and go sit by the door, wating with excited happy feet to go for the walk, they will even shove thier noses into the loop. As long as you make the experience a positive experience, your dog sould easily accept it. Good Luck!!
* I have both the gentle leader and the halti, i by far choose the gentle leader because you can make a correct fit for your dog with the gentle leader, while the halti seems too loose.

If you want to get a dog then you are going to need to train them, not just for your family's protection but also because it will make dog ownership much easier and more fun. There are many ways to train your dog and many products for dogs that are really helpful in the training process.
One of the most basic and useful tricks is to have natural pet products, such as a meaty snack, in your hand during the training process. This will allow you to treat your pet with a dog pet product when they do well. The best natural dog product to use is a form of dog jerky, as this is a particular favourite of dogs and they will obey just about any command to get this snack. Just remember, though, that you should use this treat as sparingly as possible and that the idea is to wean the dog off the expectation of a treat. In other words, you should try to use it less and less as the training goes on so that eventually your dog is obeying your commands without the anticipation that they will be rewarded with a snack.
You may want to look at buying some specific dog training products to help you. There are a huge variety of these on the market, including special training collars that allow you to put gentle pressure around the dog's neck to control them when they are on the lead. Another useful product is a specialised scent article, a tool that you hide and train the dog to find. There are plenty of these designer dog products on the market these days, so shop around and find the right one for you and your pet.
The key to pet training is the repetition, and of course, patience. It will take some time to train your dog, but once you have trained them, you will have a fantastic pet for the duration of their life. If you do have trouble then you should go and talk to an expert, sometimes there is a simple explanation.

Can you tell me some positive experiences you have had with electronic dog training collars?
I know many people don't like the idea of using electronic shock training collars. But I also know most people don't know how to train their dogs properly which results in dogs biting people, running away and getting hit by cars. Tell me some positive stories.
In 43 years of owning, training, breeding and showing dogs, I have used an electric collar once.
We live on 180 acres, but do have a country road on 2 sides of the property. Our dogs are kept in our fenced yard unless we are working, playing or walking them.
My one dog was about 3 years old. Trained for agility and competing..basic "companion obedience". He would come when called, would "heel" or "side" when told, when released, would trot ahead of me 50 feet or so, stopping and checking periodically to make sure I was still coming. If I turned and walked the other direction, he would turn too, run to me. He would "wait up" when told, and "down" at a distance when told.
In other words: he was HIGHLY trained. I had put a LOT of time into him. And he KNEW what was allowed, and to "obey"
Well, one day, at around 3 years old, as I said, he and my daughter's dog kicked up a jack rabbit...and off they went. To the end of our property into the neighboring orchard...they would not call off. To me, this is absolutely NOT ALLOWED! Because it is dangerous. The rabbit could have run a different direction across the road....
So, I borrowed a friend's E-collar.
Only because I KNEW my dog KNEW what "Micah, come" meant.
Took a week of walking daily until we kicked up another rabbit. Off he went. I called, in my normal happy voice "Micah, come!"...no response. Gave him another chance, "Micah! COME" louder. No response. Hit the button, he stopped and jumped. Again, I said "Micah! Come" still in a happy voice. He came, I told him him "Good Boy".
End of story. Never used it again.
But.....remember, I only used it because I KNEW he KNEW what "come" meant. He was simply too caught up in the chase and chose to ignore me. And by ignoring me, he could have gotten killed.
Micah is gone now. I lost him to cancer in old age. Dear, sweet, fun buddy boy.
I have a 3 year old BC now.....who I have also invested a lot of training in and continues the tradition of our walks. So far, she has called off groound squirrels immediately.
I would never use an e-collar for "training". I do not feel it is right, nor fair to shock a dog if the trainer hasn't already taught the dog "what to do"....If I didn't think I could control my dog off leash, I would not allow my dog off leash, as I had not done my job.

My dog is microchipped and I am NOT a hunter, im actually pretty against hunting. I was just interested in these things...I wouldnt be able to tatto my dog. She has a collar and a tag...she's a city dog haha.
Thanks for the info. =)
they are used by breeders as some kennel clubs still require the dog to be tattooed. Personally I think microchipping is better. With a tattooed ear you are more likely to end up with a dog who's going to be missing part of their ear.

Dog training is the oldest and probably the most common solution to bridge the understanding gap between people and dogs as their best friends. There are plenty of solutions to help dog owners train their animals, and one of the most popular is the dog training video. Sold online or in special pet stores, dog training videos provide comprehensive techniques and tricks that can turn the most disobedient of animals into an obedience example. People often prefer dog training videos to individual trainers for a variety of reasons.
First of all, there is the money issue; dog training videos are a lot cheaper than special training classes. Furthermore, many dog owners want to be actively involved in the training process; thus, with the help of a dog training video they can exploit the two sides of the experience: the fun part and the practical one. When you’ve got a puppy, it is all the more rewarding for you to be the one to train it how to target focus or fetch and retrieve. Dog training videos come with very professional solutions that can be put to practice by people who don’t have a clue on the subject.
The lessons presented by dog training videos are gradual and take you step by step to achieve the behavior patterns you want for your pet. It is a good idea that you watch every training stage on the dog training video, several times. Then you have to put into practice with your dog. Of course results appear in time, but make sure you are persistent in exercises; skills must be used, otherwise they’re wasted. Some other member of the family may get involved too, watch the dog training video together and exchange opinions. However, only one trainer should work with the dog at a time, in order not to create confusion.
Keep in mind that all the tips presented on a dog training video need to be integrated in the special context of your house. Avoid giving your pet conflicting orders and don’t use too complex linguistic structure. As you’ll learn from any dog training video, short words like ‘sit’ or ‘down’ are most effective, not to mention that the dog is receptive first and foremost to the voice pitch. Therefore, you don’t need a dog training video to tell you that animals are susceptible to raised voice for instance and they become defensive. Good luck!

In 1st part of the article I gave you initial information about cats natural behaviour and some ideas, what to pay attention to during training your cat.
2nd part of the article will continue our discussion about cats’ natural habits and at the end of the article I will give you principles of teaching your cat few commands.
From the very beginning of the cat’s training you need to take under consideration fact that cats get tired very quick from the same actions repetition. Because of that, duration of training must be just a few minutes at a time, or else cat will gain aversion to the training, and after this you will never force your cat do action again, even giving it the most tasty pieces. While working with kittens, don't train them more than 2 – 3 minutes at a time, and after training always let kittens go to play! Adult cats are able for training longer periods of time, although between them you may find individuals, which are totally unable to be trained, and at the same time – cats, who are inborn actors, able to repeat the same tricks during training again and again with big pleasure.
You must be prepared to complement and encourage your cat at any time during training period, if it has done those things you taught your cat. Violation of connection “right action – reward” at the early stage of training can lead not only to cancellation all previous achievements, but also your pet may completely lose all interest to the training. Whatever happens around you, your cat must get its reward immediately after completion of the appropriate action. After some time, when your cat memorize and easy does everything, you want from it, you may do without delicacy and use only caress and approving words.
Nevertheless, even in the case, when cat willingly respond to your proposition to act in special way, very often required effect couldn't be achieved. The most frequent cause of failures of the inexperienced trainer is reward's delay and also incorrect selection of the sound signal that represents this action. You must not use, as a sound signal, word or phrase, that your cat knows very well! And it is totally senselessly to reward your cat with the same word or phrase for performing different actions! You must use specific words in order for your cat to distinguish these words from just background noise.
If you are limited in time to train your cat, or you don't have patience at all, do not make any attempts to teach your cat any tricks and actions! Cat, who lives with you for long period of time, learns to understand many phrases addressed to it and your gestures too, and most of all cat will feel your moods and conditions! Cat, who is not, trained any tricks, who lives its own life, is not less interesting to observe. It is wonderful partner for games, and creature, who gives you its love!
Here I gave you two actions to teach your cat just to have a feeling of the training process.
“Come!”
You may expect that cat will come, after hearing your call, to look forward to something pleasant. Call your cat when it is feeding time. You need to say cheerfully and with pleasure: “Tom (or whatever your cat's name is), come here!” You must call cat by its name! If cat doesn't come after your call, take it, place cat near the plate for food and say: “Tom (or whatever your cat's name is), come here!” and put food in the plate straight away. After your cat has connected its coming with feeding, you may start calling your cat in other occasions. And every time when cat fulfil your command, you must reward it, giving it tasty piece of food. Later you may substitute delicacy with just you caress.
Do not start training, calling cat for medical procedures or bathing! Do not call cat with loud and angry voice in order to tell it off!
“Sit!”
Place cat on the floor or a couch, preferably for feeding, and stand on your knees next to it. When cat will get bored and it will sit, give a command “Sit!” at the same time. Command must coincide with action! Use only word “sit” for the command and reward your cat at once, giving delicacy, if it acts correctly! If cat doesn't sit, softly push its back down, giving the command “Sit!” and rewarding cat's sitting position.
“Stand!”
To teach your cat “stand” command you must use help of your hand. Bend your arm with angle 90 degrees, making a barrier in front of the cat. Choose appropriate moment, when cat will come close to you, make a barrier and say: “Stand!” If cat obeys your command, staying still, reward your cat straight away. After some time, when cat memorize this command, you don't need to do any gestures.
“Fetch!”
Throw a cork or any other small object, which your cat gladly carries in its mouth in a short distance and say: “Fetch!” If cat ignores you and the cork after few attempts, stop the training for some time. If cat support game and comes back with the cork, reward it! If cat runs for cork, but brings it to the corner or other place, instead of going back to you, ignore your pupil this time. You should reward only right actions!
“Give pad!”
First – teach your cat how to sit after command “Sit!” Then, while cat is sitting, softly lift its foreleg and say at the same time: “Give pad!” Reward cat straight away. After practising some time, give a command and extend your arm. If cat gives its pad – reward cat. If cat disobeys, softly take its forepaw, say: “Give pad!” and reward your cat.
Jumps through the hoop.
In this exercise you need to use appropriate size hoop. Place the hoop on the floor and stand from one side of it opposite your cat. Lure cat with some delicacy through the hoop. If cat accustomed to the leash, lead it through the hoop. When cat comes closer to the hoop, say: “Go!” and after it goes through the hoop reward it. After your cat has learnt how to go through the hoop, lift the hoop over the floor for few centimeters. And reward the cat each time, when it jumps through the lifted hoop. If cat tries to walk around the hoop - move the hoop in order to keep it every time on the cat's way. After few training sessions your cat will be able to jump easily through the hoop, which lifted over the floor for about half a meter by your command “Go!”
I hope my advices gave you useful information not only how to teach you cat few tricks, but also helped you understand better this wonderful creature, who lives next to you!

How to Litter Box Train Your Cat
[simpleaffiliate source="amazon" results="5"]cat training advice[/simpleaffiliate] [simpleaffiliate source="clickbank" results="4"]cat training advice[/simpleaffiliate]
Litter training cats can ensure that you have a pet that does not go to the bathroom on your furniture and pee in your houseplants. Litter Training cats does not only protect it from potential dangers, but keeps your belongings safe from destruction as well.
Litter training cats is important for many reasons. If they are going to the bathroom where they should be that is great, but many times they will go somewhere you dont want them to. Cats that pee on the new divan or the electrical cords to your entertainment center are not only destroying property, they are also potentially put their own lives in danger. Young cats pee in the wrong spots for the same reasons that puppies and human babies do. They just dont know any better. Give them rewards for going potty in the right places. If an older cat has suddenly developed a urge to pee outside the litter box, then consider whether he is alright, or if it is possible that he has a nutritional deficiency.
Litter training cats is so important as poorly trained kitties will often start using the entire house as their personal litter box. If you have ever walked in the house when the litter box needs to be changed, you know how disgusting that can truly be. If your cat is using items like your bed or favorite chair to potty on, he might be sending you a message. Does he loathe the new litter you bought? Did you move his litter box? Or, have you started spending too much time with that guy in 2A that stomps his feet at kitty when you are not in the room? Although litter training most cats works well and many never have issues, some are more stubborn and this behavior can often be the deal breaker for many families.
Litter training cats will make your life easier when you come to your home. Litter training cats works so well because the cat knows what is expected of him, he will not have as much anxiety, leading to a calmer more easily controlled cat. Calmer cats are more affectionate because they are not nervous or high-strung. Litter training your cat allows him to focus on good behaviors and the things that make a cat's life a good one; napping, eating and stalking dust motes in the sunny patch by the window.
Despite all of the stereotypes, kittens and cats are not completely self-sufficient creatures. They still need their human families for litter training cats. And, despite all of their protests against it, kitties need their humans too.
Adopting a cat can be a very rewarding feeling, as well as a major challenge at times. We want our family life to be calm and warm, not frantic and frustrating, so we need all of the members, including the furry ones, to be at their best behavior.
