Is this feline behaviour normal?
My cat has recently given birth to three kittens. She keeps tossing one of the kittens out of the basket, it just landed on it's head a few feet away from me. Also, she licks and cleans the other ones but not this one. Is she rejecting her? Should I do something/intervene? Also, how soon after giving birth should I have mommy cat spade?
Lucy is still feeding the one she is mean to.
Thanks in advance
Rhianna
Try fixing Lucy a larger box. It could be that she's crowded, since she's still feeding this one, even though she's tossing it out!
Or, you could go to the pet store, get a pet nurser and some KITTEN MILK and supplement feed this one, until mom decides it's ok to let it back into the litter............
Is this kitten the largest? Maybe she's tossing it out so the others will have a chance to nurse, without this one pushing the others away
Sometimes moms will toss unhealthy kittens, but they don't usually continue to feed them.......
Are you feeding Lucy KITTEN FOOD? She could use the extra nutrition until the kittens are weaned.
Call and ask your vet when the earliest he's willing to spay her. Some vets will spay while the kittens are still nursing...at about 4 wks.....some won't. So.....call, ask, and make the appointment so you'll be ready when the time comes.
These ideas are all I can come up with.....Good luck.......
