What are some good training tips for a german shepherd puppy?
I'm about to pick up my 12 week old german shepherd and I would like to hear some helpful advice from owners.
If you don't know, then you need to enlist the help of an experienced trainer that can SHOW YOU, not tell you, training techniques. GSD's can easily be ruined by an inexperienced owner with no training skills.
GSD's need strong owners with strong leadership abilities, but this doesn't mean jerking the dog around and being abusive or a bully. It means building a relationship with the dog so that he trusts you in a way that you are the leader and you are in control. Too many people think you accomplish this through hitting, screaming, and torturing the dog. In a GSD, this will cause serious temperament problems.
On the flipside, you can't ♥wwuuuvvvv♥ the dog into obedience.
You want to create a dog that's confident, not dominant. You want a dog that obeys, but is not submissive. Get the help of a REAL trainer so that yu can learn proper techniques.
