A similar effect can be achieved with the other yellow and white bicolor daffodils, such as dainty under planted with the little white grape hyacinth. You might also like to try jack snipe, or the even smaller little beauty, planted with creamy white violas or wild primrose.

For strength and warmth of color, plant the brighter, more richly colored tulips and grape hyacinths among vibrant red, orange or blue polyanthus and primroses or amid the blues and purples of violas and pansies. Plan the borders in autumn and reap the rewards next spring. You can build on your successes, adapting them if needed each season by including, for example, a selection of different violas or primroses.
