We are thinking of buying an english springer spaniel, is this a good dog for a pet?
We have a 10 month old son and the puppy is 11 weeks old, almost house trained. I'm worried that all of them are hyper but my husband assures me they are not.
Spaniels, especially Springers, DO make great family pets! I do not say this about many dogs, but Spaniels are loyal, loving, highty-intelligent, and love to please you. If he comes housetrained, all the better! I would say go for it, as raising kids around dogs while they are young is a great idea as well. Just make sure to get him in to some awesome professional obedience training as that is a good foundation for these working breed dogs. And having him professional groomed every three months or so also helps maintain the coat, as long as you leave the feathering longer.
I vote yes!! You will love this dog:)
Oh, and I disagree with TLCtreeCA. Any dog can be housebroken in less than one week. With time and commitment through positive crate training, the dog can learn where is potty and where is NOT potty. A dog door will help immensely!!
All of my 9 dogs were housetrained in less than 7 days, even some are rescues. So there. True dog trainers know this is possible, no matter what breed.
