make sure you are following a healthy diet, at least 200 calories less than your daily calories needed. input your stats into this to find what your daily calorie need is.
do crunches with weight resistance, that way you only need to do 3 reps of 20 crunches and get the same effect as doing 100 crunches with out resistance. squats and jumps will help you tone your thighs.
remember: crunches and squats will not make you lose fat in those specific areas. the only way you can lose weight is overall through burning more calories than you consume. you need to burn about 3,500 calories to lose 1 lb of fat. the crunches and squats will help tone your body, which will make you look leaner once you lose the fat.
you can not lose 10-15 lbs in a month. you can lose up to 2 lbs a week, but 1 lb is more realistic. so expect to lose about 4 lbs a month. your goal will take about 2 1/2 months.

As a full time dog behaviour specialist, my role is to help owners whose dogs are showing undesirable behaviour. In my work dog aggression is relatively common, falling into three broad categories: dog to dog aggression, aggressive behaviour towards people, and finally aggressive behaviour focused upon guarding food, territory or toys etc.
Both the type of aggression and the way it manifests can vary considerably. Due to the complexities involved, I shall not attempt to offer a one-stop guide in how to deal with dog aggression here, as each dog and owner will require an individual programme based on their set of circumstances. What might be just right for one dog may be excessive or inadequate for another.
A long time ago I began to see very clearly the importance of early and correct socialisation with young dogs in an effort to prevent aggressive behaviour in the first place. On the basis that most aggressive behaviour has a foundation of insecurity and fear, this brings us back time after time to the fact that the dog was (probably) not socialised correctly at the right age. There are other factors that could create this behaviour in a dog, and another common aspect is that the dog may have been attacked when at an impressionable age, leading neatly back in a full circle to creating a reactive dog. The dog may now drive away what concerns it most by showing (often through learned and repeated practice) aggressive behaviour and actions.
In attacks that leave a dog nervous aggressive, we can see a long and repeated chain of events as the dog passes this fear on to other dogs through its own aggressive behaviour, and the cycle can go on and on in an almost virus-like action. This seems to be particularly so in built-up areas where the dog may not have adequate supervision or control, or the owner may lack the skills to effectively resolve the behaviour at an early stage. If you should find yourself in this position, I would pause here and say it needn’t be this way…there is help available.
It’s not unusual for people to take on a rescue dog that may exhibit dog to dog aggression (or other unwanted behaviours) once the dog has become more settled in the home. This behaviour may have been developed and practiced by the dog a long time before the new owners took it on, and this can change what should be an enjoyable and rewarding experience into a highly stressful one. In this situation, the dog’s early socialisation is well beyond the new owners influence, and one should seek the help of a recommended behaviour specialist to safely establish the best way forward.
Those that read any of my other articles would find a common thread that is never far away from most issues I cover and the work that I do, and that is the one of leadership. Refer to my Articles page on my web site to read more on this. Very often one can literally lead the dog out of this stressful behaviour by an increase in leadership and control. It’s rather like taking a new kids hand in class and saying ‘It’s ok, let me show you how to do this’. When this is done with a calm and convincing approach, it can be enough to redirect the dog onto a new task when in the same circumstances that would have previously created a scene and stress all round.
Sadly, a global approach and method does not resolve all cases. Some dogs can be improved by simply implementing a number of leadership based actions in and out of the home resulting in a miraculous change, whilst others are deeply disturbed, and may never fully recover despite our best efforts.
Apart from correct socialisation at an early age, I am also certain that the leadership balance is not always helped when people choose what seems to be an inappropriate breed for them. With aging we may lose the agility and quick responses we once had for a particular breed or certain size of dog. But it’s not just ageing that can cause reduced influence over your dog; life’s circumstances also change on a regular basis for many of us, with work or family pressures being the obvious ones.
Pip my female Border Terrier, and Oscar the Maine Coon cat are a perfect compliment to our life style as a family. We can cope with the exercise requirements of Pip, and she is a relaxed dog for the best part. Oscar tends to be a law unto himself, although he does come to call and sit and wait before meals. My daughter can handle and exercise Pip with ease, and this is another area to consider should you have children at home.
Should you be researching a new breed, I urge you to take extra time to carefully decide with a calm collected head what would be manageable for you and your family. This will increase the likelihood of you being able to control that dog on a physical level on lead, and to have the confidence to put your best foot forward. Some breeds are not for beginners, but I see first time owners with them all too often. Choosing the right breed can save a lot of blood, sweat and tears. There are incidentally a number of free step-by-step questionnaires online that can give guidance on this matter. Well worth a look. Google ‘dog selection questionnaire’ for example.
So what do you do when you find yourself in the situation where you are struggling with dog aggression in one or more of its many guises? In the first instance it would be wise to have your dog assessed by your vet for any medical symptoms, and to then seek the help of a recommended behaviour specialist that is both prepared and equipped to deal with aggressive behaviour, and has a proven track record using humane techniques in doing so. Your confidence in being able to work together with this practitioner is also essential in my view, as the behaviourist will be instructing you as much as (if not more than) the dog. Be sure to ask a few awkward questions, and seek references to satisfy yourself that they are able to cope with the situation.
Whilst I regularly travel long distances to help with such cases, you may need more local help from a practitioner with the Canine and Feline Behaviour Association.

To stay on your property??? I just asked a question a little while ago about electronic fences and a few things people said made me think.... Even if your yard is fenced... what if the gate was open.... Do you trust your dog to stay on the property?? My dog knows that he is not allowed out the gate whether it is open or not. Not that I give him the option but I've seen him stop right at that gate whether I'm there or not. Of course, if I see it open, I immediately go close it.... no matter how well trained he is, I'm not giving him the option of running out.... he's still a dog and I don't trust him 100%.... there's always the chance a cat or a squirrel or his little cocker spaniel girlfriend down the street is gonna come walking by and all that training is gonna go right out the window. How much do you trust your dog to stay on your property if they have a chance to run off on their own???
I trust him 10000%, but, then again he has been conditioned to not go towards the gate when it is open. He will not run, even in the face of a temptation because he knows that doing so will have adverse consequences on his well being! Hope I helped.

I am looking to get my 3 dogs started in agility. Im not looking right now into doing competitions just something for the family to do in our backyard and to have fun . (and exercise for the dogs) The largest dog is a purebred cocker spaniel that is about 25 lbs the other two are energetic mixes under 15 lbs. What equipment do you recommend? Any specific brands or websites I should look out?What are the average prices for the equipment? Any beginner tips from those of you that do agility?
Agility is a lot of fun for the whole family, but make sure your dogs enjoy it before you go and spend a ton of money on equipment. Sign up for a beginner agility class at a local dog training school. When you do go to buy equipment, I recommend building the easy stuff like jumps. Adjustable jumps will be a good idea since you have dogs of different sizes and capabilities. Tunnels are always fun and can be bought at children's toy stores. It won't be the same as the tunnels used at agility competitions, but for the size of dogs you have and just for doing it for fun, children's tunnels work well. My family made weave poles out of tubing found in a hardware store. Weave poles are usually hardest to teach your dog and most dogs don't like them as much as the other equipment, so I'd make these a little later. A table or pause box is also a great easy thing to make.
When you do agility, make sure to have some good treats and your dogs attention. Also make sure to do warm ups before you begin to make sure your dog doesn't pull anything while doing the agility. Some good warm ups are spin and twirl, bow, rollover, and touch.

Ok ive never crate trained a dog and im not sure how to do it. Do I put food and water in the crate or let it out to eat and drink? If you could please help me with the basics.
The basics are:
Place the dog in the crate when you are not able to supervise it. During the day when you are at work or just away. Put the dog in at night for bedtime. Put a good blanket or pad for comfort, and I do not recommend putting food or water in there. Dogs are den animals, they should not potty in the crate. However, if you make the crate too big, it can potty in the corner and sleep in another corner. Give the dog enough space to sit up, turn around and lay down. The dog will not potty where it sleeps if you do this. Feed the dog in another area of your home, kitchen, office, where ever you choose. If you let the dog eat and drink whenever it wants to, then you will develop potty issues. Just with everything else you need to set limits, including the food and water in the crate. Do not worry it really is not mean to the dog. If your dog complains when you put in the crate, give treats, kongs or a favorite toy. It should help comfort it. But do not give in the the crys or complaints of your dog. He/she will soon associate it as a safe quiet place. When you are at home with the dog, leave the crate door open. That will help them realize they can go in at any time.
My dog absolutely hated his crate when we got him as a pup. Screamed and barked and would not stop. We didn't sleep for a week. It seemed impossible but we ignored him. Now 10 months later, i find him 9 times out of 10 in his crate sleeping when I leave the door open.

I co-instruct at a community park and it is free. The reason is to help people with untrained dogs and make them a better pet. I also go to the ocotc and it is $50 for an 8 week course, but they also teach you how to show in obedience.

No, you don't have to go to a school to become a service dog trainer. In fact, most service dog trainers don't. Most apprentice with an experienced trainer or program.
You can train any dog you like and give it to whomever you like. You don't need a certificate for that. However, if you don't have contacts within the service dog provider industry you must ask yourself just how you plan to ply this trade. Also, trying to sell or advertise a dog as a service dog may be problematic since some states do require you to be licensed in order to do that (give away for free, yeah, but sell or advertise and you can get into trouble).
Firstly, most states that give trainers public access rights require that that trainer be in some way accredited, either certified by a recognized organization or working for a recognized program. So people working on their own would not have public access rights for training in those states. That's not to say a service dog couldn't be trained anyway, because it can (just not in public). Not all states have training rights in the first place, for anyone certified or not, yet trainers in these states are still able to produce service dogs.
Second, who in their right mind is going to want a service dog from Joe Smith who has no credentials whatever to train a service dog, has no liability insurance, no veterinary coverage for their animals, etc., when there are legitimate programs that do have all of that? And perhaps more importantly, who is going to donate to Joe Smith so that he can run his operation? The average service dog recipient is not going to be able to pay the costs for the dog, even given the trainer's labor is completely donated. It's still going to cost a few thousand dollars for all the health clearances, veterinary care, food, and housing during the 18-24 months of training for each dog. A typical dog costs me $5,000 to produce, not counting anything for the time I put in as trainer. So without some sort of credentials, where does one get any funding?
Your best bet is to apprentice with a good program. If you can't do that, then go to Bergin. If you decide to try it on your own, consult an attorney to find out your legal obligations and liabilities in doing so. You really do need the insurance and the credibility.

Over the last 6 months we have been crate training our dog. The crate is the perfect size for him. Just over the last month, he has started barking almost the entire night. He has also recently started to pee a little in the back of the crate. He did fine for so long, but now it seems like a total regression. It is so hard to be happy with a dog that barks all night and pees himself. Please, does anybody have a solution? The dog is in the other room of the house. The reason being is that allergies have arisen from other members of the household. We do take his water away 2 hours before bed and do puit him out before we go to bed. I let him out at night to pee when he first barks....but as soon as he's back in, he starts barking again. He's not in the crate all day, only at night. I really think it' more of an attention thing.
You might want to consider taking him to the vet and testing for a urinary tract infection.
Once any health problems have been ruled out... You could try withholding food & water after, say, 8 pm. (Hey, if I drink a glass of water before bed I have to get up and pee in the night, too!) This may seem obvious, but make sure you let him out right before crating him in the night.
As far as the barking goes... Make sure you don't go running to him every time he barks, or you will only teach him that barking gets him what he wants! Also, some dogs like blankets in their crate and some don't. I don't know if that's why he's barking but it's worth a shot.
The type of crate might make a difference too. Our Schipperke had a little plastic crate that she couldn't see out of very well and would whine in the night. We started putting her in an all-metal crate - the kind with the bars, that she can see out of - and it made all the difference in the world.
Last but not least, if the dog is lonely, you might want to think about putting the crate right in your bedroom. You didn't say how old the dog is, but regardless of age you might want to try these suggestions.

i am a single professional looking for the idea perfect pet r dog must have no hair, low maintenance, no nails or ez to cut nails, ez to house train, very small dog that will not grow very big at all able to spend time alone until i come from work and not ruin things any suggestions.
You might want to try a hamster/guinea-pig/rabbit that you can hold a play with but are low maintenance (the smaller the less maintenance). All you need to do is feed them in the morning (enough for the whole day or again in the afternoon), make sure they have water, and clean the cage once a week.
