Here Are 5 Chihuahua House Training Rules You Should Definitely Live By!

Before beginning your Chihuahua house training, it is vitally important that you establish a relationship with your little Chihuahua based on love and trust. Without this special bond, you will have an even more difficult time with your house training. So above all else, keep this in mind.

Now, here are 5 very crucial tips to really help you in your Chihuahua house training:

1. Don't ever yell or respond negatively toward your Chihuahua. Negative or derogatory remarks will not teach but rather make your Chi very angry and upset.

2. Give them plenty of exercise. Take them on walks and let them burn off energy outside.

3. Utilize positive reinforcement. In other words, reward your Chihuahua with treats often for tiny successes such as going potty outdoors instead of behind the couch. And show them plenty of affection for doing well by petting them frequently.

4. Take frequent potty breaks. Understand that a young Chihuahua, especially, needs to go and go often. Use a command word such as "make" or "go" and ask your Chihuahua repeatedly if it needs to do just that. Getting your Chi to identify or associate a command word with "going potty" will help teach your Chihuahua to relieve himself outside.

5. Be patient. If your Chihuahua goes inside, don't scold him or her. Understand that it does take time to house train a Chihuahua. For mistakes inside, pick up any mess immediately with a good cleaner and/or pet deodorizer. When taking your Chihuahua outside to relieve himself, be sure to visit the same area again and again. Get your Chihuahua to "prefer" where it does its business.
