Is it safe to train chihuahuas to use the doggy door when left alone during the day?
I live in Avondale, AZ which is a suburb of Phoenix, it is an area that is surrounded by other home developments and farms. I am thinking about getting a chihuahua, however, I work full time and do not have the luxury to come home during the day. Therefore, I would like the dog to use the doggy door instead of using puppy pads or what not in the house. My yard is completely enclosed with 7ft brick walls with a equally tall wooden gate. The yard is maintained and Arizona's winters are short and mild (so that can be flexible).
If you're getting a puppy i would not recommend it as you might not know if the puppy ate something he shouldn't outside(he might be sick, I've been there and the vet bill is not good) and since cihuahua are small(even as adults) there are birds and other animals out there that might see your puppy as a delicious meal.
