I've been looking into buying a PetSafe product for my older puppy - 11mos who came from a shelter and has NO training.

I'm considering buying the PetSafe Ultrasonic Remote -

Anyone have experience with this line of products and do they work? I want some safe - not a shock collar or a spike collar or anything like that!

I would honestly say that most remote trainers either ultrasonic or static do not work. Main reason? Human error. When a dog has a bark collar, everytime with out fail they get a correction. (just example, compare her issue to barking) But if there is a remote, she could bark and you could miss it, or not have the same time reaction as an automatic device. It takes about 2000 repetitions of a certain behavior for a dog t understand what you are asking of them. Most people tend to get ' trigger happy' with the remote items and confuse the pup. The other main problem with that type of item is that the dog associates the behavior to wearing the collar. Collar comes off behavior comes back. And in extreme cases the dog learns to have issues with the owner if item not used properly. The best advice I can give you is save the money from an electronic device and enroll her in a training class. They run about the same price and you will have better results with the class. And the class is all positive reinforcement, all though you are not 'shocking' her that loud noise is still negative reinforcement which is really not the best way to train a dog.

How much does dog training at Petco cost?

I`m getting a beagle in a few days, and I want to train it before i do anything. Does anyone know how much it costs to train a dog at Petco? What is the price range for them? I am getting a small 3 month old Beagle, does anyone know how much it costs? PLEASE HELP!

I'd recommend calling your local Petco and ask them. I just completed a class with PetsMart for $99 and it was awesome. However, I'd recommend you pick up the book "The Loved Dog". It has some great info on training and it's all with positive reinforcement. Great resource. I've trained several of our dogs and it's always good to go through a class with a new puppy. Socialization for them and reinforcement for you.
