UK........anyone tried royvon residential dog training?

i'm seriously thinking of sending my 10 month old border collie here for 3 weeks training, i have tried some trainers but with no success i'm getting close to having to get rid of my dog now which will break my heart. she is very attentive and nips at my 9 year old daughter all the time, she does not come back when called, this is mainly when there is a distraction around. advice please?

this training school has a 98% success rate but i would like to hear from people who have had first hand experience.

i am not a registered trainer and have trained other peoples dogs with great sucsess im 23yr old female. where abouts in the uk r u? perhapsi could help you without the exspensive fees as i would only ask for travel costs if things worked out for you and would train in your own home because he may work gereat for a trainer but not for you u have to know what u need to do to stop the behaviour u dont want. if this appeals to you contact me via email

how to train 10 month old schnauzer to come when she gets off leash?

I have a 10 month old female mini-schnauzer and she is very smart but what i would consider a alpha personality. When she is outside she is either on a leash or a 20 ft. rope. I would like very much to be able to let her off the leash or rope when she is outside with us however every time we try to let her off the leash she takes off for other places in the sub-division and no matter how much coaxing we use, she totally ignores us. I have tried coaxing her with snacks but that doesn't usually work. When she finally does come back, i praise her and give her a snack, hoping that will help, it doesn't seem to work.

I have considered an electronic training collar but have heard so many negative things about the electronic collars, i decided against it. I don't have any idea how to get her to stop taking off when she knows she is free of the leash or rope.

That's a tough one if snacks don't work. She'll probably calm down a little more when she's older, so you might just want to wait until she's more mature. But if she's very strong-willed, I can't imagine anything other than an electric collar doing the job. Personally, I don't think every dog can be trusted enough for such freedom; I have a poodle and a golden who are trustworthy, but my beagle could never be let off his leash. And, of course, the pit bull, though she is perfectly obedient is not allowed off her leash except in her own yard.

My APBT will be 4 months next week and I want to put her in an obedience school. I also am wanting to get her fixed. Should I get her fixed before putting her in obedience school or does it matter?

its not necessary. Ceasar had basic puppy obedience classes starting at that age and was neutered at six months. IMHO, it's never too early to start training.

How to become a certified dog trainer?

How does someone become a certified dog trainer?

I've trained my dog and several others, but I would like to have some sort of certification in it. I work with a rescue group and would like to offer volunteer services of dog training to people who adopt from this group, but I want to be as good as I possibly can at it and I want it to be completly legit.

Are there classes here or there to become trained, or do I go to school for it?

There is no such thing as a "certified" dog trainer. Schools are a waste of money. You want to learn to train, then you need to earn competition titles on your dog.

Dachshund Clicker Training - How Does it Work?

A clicker is a small box with a metal insert that makes a clicking noise when pressed.  Some people just make a clicking noise with their tongues instead, but this might not be as effective as the sound (pitch, volume, duration) will differ, where the clicker always gives exactly the same noise.  Dachshund clicker training works by reinforcing a wanted behaviour with a click and a treat.  Your Dachshund soon learns to connect the click with the skill you want.  When utilising a clicker, it is the timing of the click that is impportant.  You have to click at the precise second your Dachshund completes the skill you desire.  This lets them connect the click and treat with the skill.  This reinforces the behavior.


Beginning Dachshund Clicker Training

You can't begin clicker training until you have introduced your Dachshund to the clicker and shown them how it works.  To condition your Dachshund to the clicker, take them somewhere quiet.  Click and offer your Dachshund a treat.  It does not matter if they do not glance at you or recognize the clicker.  Repeat this several times, continuing until they look at you when they hear the click, but do not let the session last more than 10 minutes.  You possibly will need several sessions before your Dachsund links the noise of the clicker to the treat.  Once conditioned to the clicker you can begin training behaviors and skills.  Dachshunds have short attention spans, so you should keep sessions short.  It could  take a few sessions before your Dachshund becomes conditioned to the clicker.  

There are two methods to clicker train, capturing and luring.  Capturing can occur anywhere at any time.  You always have a clicker and treats with you and when you see a desired behavior you click and give a reward.  You observe your dog and when they do the behavior you desire (e.g. sitting) you click and give a reward.  Luring is a more formal methodology.

1. Find a quiet area to train, and work to condition your Dachshund to the clicker if you haven't already done so.  if your Dachshund understands the importance of the clicker, click and reward a couple of times prior to beginning training to reinforce the meaning.  Only train one skill at a time, using a treat to coax your Dachsund into the right position.  At the instant they finish the behavior, give a click and reward with a treat.  

2. If your Dachshund can't work out the full behavior, you can separate it into smaller parts, clicking and giving a reward as they make progress towards the final, complete behavior. Don't be disenchanted if clicker training a Dachshund takes time. With resolve and persistence you will succeed.


Using a Voice Command

Eventually just the sight of the clicker will result in your Dachshund performing the behavior.  At this stage add a verbal prompt when you click.  It will not take much until your Dachshund connects the verbal cue, click, treat and behavior.  Once they recognize the verbal cue, only click and reward when your Dachsund demonstrates the behavior in response to the cue.  As time passes you will note that your Dachshund responds more enthusiastically to the voice command.  At this juncture start decreasing the frequency with which you use the clicker.  Ultimately you will find that you are able to use your voice command only and still get a dependable response.


There are many applications for Dachshund clicker training. You can teach important obedience commands, and stop behaviors like barking.  It is a approach that utilizes only positive techniques, that helps build a solid bond between you and your Dachshund.
