Dog Training Leash

I'm leash training my dog is he suppose to walk ahead of you or right beside you?

He's on a 60 inch lease when I walk him. Is he suppose to have his head right beside me, or his legs beside me? Thanks

His head should be right beside your knee. Reasons are 1) so the dog doesn't begin to think he's the leader of the pack, and 2) if you want to change direction and the dog is ahead of you, you have to haul him around to get him facing the right way because he can't see what you're doing. If he's beside you, he can see you change direction and can change too
