Do obedience schools for dogs work?

There are a few places in the town I live in that take your dog for (1) month and train them to sit, stay, and follow basic commands like that and they also teach them good behavior... not to bite, be aggressive, or to bark without neccessity. As an owner, I have to go visit the dog for one hour on Saturday each week. Other than that, I am not allowed to see the dog.

I don't have a dog right now that needs training, but my chihuahua is getting really old. All she ever wants to do these days is sleep... play a little bit, but primarily sleep. She's not sickly or anything... just old. Anyway, I've started looking into other dog breeds (not necessarily small), and I was wondering about these training programs.

Yes they do work, but once the dog is home you have to be willing to continue the training. We had a dog that went for training and came back GREAT. But we had to work with her everyday after she came home.
Sorry about your dog and hope your search for a new dog goes well.
