Training a puppy potty training tips will make for a very easy and rewarding indoor house dog experience. Nobody likes to clean up feces or urine from a dog on the carpet or even a marble tile. It's gross and can get quite frustrating after the first few times. This post will discuss how to train your dog to do his or her business outside, where it belongs.

Training Young Pups

For newborn or young puppies, it can be difficult to train them how to go to the bathroom outside.

The reason is that these young animals do not have the control over their bladder that older ones have. As a result, they may be more likely to go to the bathroom indoors on "accident". Simply recognize this fact and expect it to take longer than for an older dog. The good thing if you have an older dog is that you can train him or her to fix this problem easily!

Using the Crate!

One of the easiest and most effective puppy potty training tips is to use a crate. What you need is, of course, a crate! What you are going to do is put your buddy in this crate when you are gone for a few hours or as a training tactic. Leave them in there for a few hours and then come back later. Because most won't want to use the bathroom and relieve themselves in such a small confined area, they will hold their bladder or feces until they have more room. Nobody wants to be laying in their own excrete!

When you come back, let your doggie out and take him or her outside. They will most likely relieve themselves. When they do, be sure to praise their success. Give them a treat, pat them on the head, do whatever you want. Just make sure they realize what they did was amazing. This will make your dog realize that going bathroom outside is a good thing.

Make a Command

While your pup goes outside, be sure also to use some type of word command. This will get them to link up the command with using the bathroom. That way next time you say the command they will know what to do.

Accidents

During the process of using puppy potty training tips, I am sure that problems and accidents will happen. Do not fret over these setbacks. It's all part of the process. Absolutely NO punishment! This will instill fear which is the worst thing you want. Simply stop him or her from what they are doing and take them outside right away. Say your command phrase and clean the mess as soon as possible. You don't want the odor lingering as they will smell it and try again.

Other Tips on Dog Training Other useful and very helpful tips for this type of training is to minimize the area that you need to watch. At first, close off most of the house so you don't have to be chasing your pup around watching for accidents. Be sure to take him or her outside at the same time every day. It is usually best in the morning, after eating meals, when you get home from work, and at the end of every night before you go to sleep. It should also be done every few hours.

It is best to take them outside to use the restroom instead of, for example, on newspapers. This isn't the best option as it is still inside and isn't training your dog to use the bathroom outside.

Help with puppy potty training!?

I was told to puppy train to a pad and then when she does good going on that, then to take it away and take her outside. Well she is doing really well with going potty on the pad, but she will not poop on it, she always goes into our hallway. I try to keep an eye on her after she eats, but she won't go for awhile and it's always when I leave the room for 2 seconds that she will go, and then I tell her it was bad and take her over to the pad. I need some more ideas, should I just start to take her outside all the time, or should I stick with pad training, and then move forward with going outside? Thanks!

Reasonable Puppy Potty Training Expectations

Puppy Potty Training: This is often the first thing you need to do with your puppy. This is your first training request for your new puppy. To save you lots of work, confine your new family member, the puppy, to rooms that are tiled or have washable rugs. This will save you a lot of work in the months to come. It's important to have reasonable expectations when it comes to potty training your puppy.

While potty training your puppy is important here is an ideal area you can learn how not to lose your temper and see that positive praise really works and makes the whole process easier on you and your puppy. As you start to get to know each other, some of the guess work is eliminated. At first you are going to have to take your puppy to the potty a lot.

The more time you can spend with your puppy the more easily you will get to your end goal of a dry house. Puppy's need to go to the potty about eight to ten times daily between six weeks and three months, that is how often they need to go. As you start to read the puppy's clues, to when they need to use the potty, things become easier. A puppy will need the potty, ten to fifteen minutes after eating.

As the puppy gets older their ability to hold on increases, due to their muscular development. Therefore, you will need to take them to the potty area less often. At four and a half months to six months you see a reduction, the high figures of early puppy potty training go down to four to six times daily. Tips to reading your puppy are if they start to turn in circles, sniff the ground a lot or are hunching their back, all these are signs to get your dog to the potty area.

Really give over board praise when the puppy has used the potty area, after all it is one less mess for you to clean up. Really praise the behavior that you want to see, positive reinforcement works. Accidents will happen, do not punish your puppy, no shouting or hitting. If you manage to catch the puppy in the act, pick them up and rush them to the potty area, if they then manage to finish off in the right area lots of praise.

Take your puppy to the potty after they have had a nap, again they are more likely to use the potty. Take away drinks and food at night, if your puppy has drinks and food at night they are going to want to use the potty area, you are going to want to sleep.

Another tip is that on average puppy's can hold on the same amount of hours as their age in months, so if they are three months they can hold on about three hours. This is not a rule and different breeds vary as well as the puppy's own personality. Keeping your puppy on a food schedule, this will help a lot. Puppy need lots to drink so do not limit their drinking throughout the day.

You may like to pop them on the potty area ten minute after they have had a drink. If you feel that your puppy is not getting potty trained, even though you have been trying you may need to see your vet to just check there are no problems.
