How do you toilet train your pet dog?

Our dog pisses alot everywhere and it is annoying, the whole place stinks. Any suggestions on how to train our dog? He is 5 months, by the way.
hey brittany, obviously, I won't be asking questions about dogs if I am an experienced one. I am willing to learn how that's why I am asking. You are such a brag!

take him outside and when he "makes" outside praise him, give him maybe half a treat and tell him he's a good dog
if he goes inside gently put his nose in it (not literally in it but right in front of it so he gets the picture haha) and say "no"

it's not going to happen in a day
and he'll learn eventually just be patient

but you always start potty training a dog pretty much as soon as you get it!
kinda like teaching an old dog new tricks ya know?
