How do I handle crate training a 3 month old yorkie?

I'm reading the "puppy training for dummies" book. I've had my dog since valentines day. The book is saying that you should stick to the same schedule even on weekends so the dog doesn't get confused but I feel bad doing that. I leave him for work at 8am and come back around12:30 to let him out on my lunch. Then, I'm home to get him by 4:15.
It also said that while crate training her should spend majority of his time in there or confined to a small area. Is this true? If you have a yorkie or amll breed dog, can you give me some pointers?

Yes, a crate should become a safe, secure place for your dog. The crate should be big enough for your dog to turn around in but not a whole lot bigger.

Personally, I think weekends can be different if that is your set routine. Allow for some crate time though. If, for example, you are going to watch TV for an hour or 2, put your puppy in her crate during this time. If she cries because she knows you are there, place the crate on the couch with the door closed and facing you. She will soon learn that her crate is comfortable place to be.

You can also try giving your puppy some treats while in the crate (door closed) and allow her to have a toy. The key is to make the crate feel like the safest, most secure place in the world. Place clean blankets in there and never move the crate suddenly.

It might take a lot of time for her to get used to the idea of this being her very own house but it's important in case you ever need to transport her to the vet or in an other emergency.

Help I Need a Dog Training For Dummies Guide

Please excuse the dog training for dummies title I don't mean to offend you, I simply used this because this term is a description we have come to acknowledge and respect as a term to help use solve almost any problem we may have. I take my hat off to the guys who made the ‘For Dummies' series of books.

If you are in need of assistance to train your dog then you have come to the right place. My main goal here is merely to put you in the correct frame of mind before you start to educate your dog. It will be then that you will eventually see how you can train your dog in the most effective way. You, yourself, could end up producing a dog training for dummies DVD.

Initially the thing you must get right in your head about how to train your dog is to go from having this brainwave that your dog can't be trained and they will forever be a issue to own. And start to think about how you will take control of the whole state of affairs and deal with your challenging canine.
