Using positive training methods what is the best way to discipline a dog for chewing up stuff?

My 1.5 old dog Harleigh has been responding really well with positive training but occasionally when she feels like I am on the phone too long or not paying her enough attention she chews books and papers up. I don't want to yell at her because it gives her attention that she is looking for but I want a good way to discipline her that is effective so I can save the rest of my paperbacks and bills.

Use a verbal correction, that is fine. I use verbal corrections with my puppy. Just an "ah ah!"

Just give her something else to chew on instead. I like putting some peanut butter in a kong and freezing it. That will take a good hour or two to get out.

What are some of the most effective dog training books to used? Which ones are the best?

I'm trying to buy a good dog training book so I can train my dog at home. There are so many I don't know which ones would be the best to get. So if you've ever used a dog training book, let me know what you thought about it.

Two MUST read books for you are Dog Problem: Gentle and modern solutions by David Weston and The Other End of the Leash by Patricia McConnell. ETA: I would stay away from the Koehler Training book, I just read it and its appauling. In general stay away from books that focus on negative training.
