how to kennel train 8 week old german shepherd puppy?

i just got a german shepherd puppy and he is fine in his kenel until i close the door on it, then he starts crying uncontrollably and bites the cage to try and get out. He does not bark, just cried and wimpers a lot. I just let him sleep on my bed where he is happy. how can I train him to not mind being in his crate when i am out of the house?

Every puppy cries when you put it in the crate at first.
There are several things I have read to try, like a warm water bottle or heating pad on low covered by a blanket or a ticking clock (it mimics their littermates and mother).
I never tried those. The first night, I would sit by the crate and reassure the pup until it settled. I only did that a few times, the dog cannot get used to you being there. Then I would talk to the dog from bed so he would know he wasn't alone, then after a few more days, i would ignore it and the dog would stop.
If you keep letting him sleep in the bed, he will not adjust to the crate. Same with sitting by the crate or speaking to the dog. I do it at first, just to reassure them since they are so new, but after a couple of days, just let them calm down themselves.

NEVER take the pup out when crying or whining. It will teach them to do this more. If they are whining and you are going to take them out, wait for a short break, then remove the pup.

If you want to have the dog used to the crate when you leave, you need to put the puppy in the crate several times a day and at night, not just when you are leaving. I made that mistake with my Lab and it became a nightmare. He associated the crate with being left alone- not a good situation.

You can also feed the pup in the crate and give treats in the crate to create a good association.

It takes patience. Remember the dog is alone for the first time and this is all new to him. He will adjust, you just have to be consistant.
