My dog is squirrel Obsessed. Help?
She is a bird dog & yes I know about their innate love of things that can leave the yard. Unfortunately she can also jump a 6ft privacy fence. We adopted her a couple of months back, taken her to generic training classes, rigged the top of the fence with lattice & yet she treats the fence like a berm on a BMX track. Does anyone have any advice on how to deter her or the squirrels without harming any of the parties involved? Pellet guns are not an option!
My dog is a german shorthair/vizsla mix. Not a lick of terrier in her...
I feel your pain ;-). Having fence jumpers can be really frustrating.
The best solutions for you are an invisible fence wire laid along the existing fence line, or something like the coyote roller :

Don't listen to anyone who tells you this is a training issue. Even the most obedient, well-trained dogs will still jump the fence for a critter when you're not around.
The invisible fence is probably the most practical way to go, but I gotta admit it'd be fun to see the squirrels trying out the roller :)
