How can I train a pet cockatoo not to poo on my shoulder?
Whenever I have my pet cockatoo on my shoulder it always takes a poo on me. How can I train it so when it does need to take a poo it gives me a signal or goes to a certain spot to do it?
First every morning when you get him out, put him over a waste basket and say go poo. After he poos which all birds do first things in the morning tell him what a good bird he is. Then every time you get him out to pick him up put him over the waste basket and tell the bird to go poo. Make a big deal out of it when he does it. Remember he will only not poo for another 10 to 20 minutes so you may want a towel to over your shoulders so he doesn't poo on you. The bigger the bird the longer they can usually hold it unless the get stressed. You can tell by watching a bird when they need to go poo. It is very hard to watch a bird on your shoulder. It is kind of like training a baby to potty train put him on the pot often then us praise or a treat. Another thing if you feed the bird on your shoulder it will poo on you. What goes in comes out quickly with a bird. I use a towel when I cuddle so I don't get stress and neither does my bird.
