Isn't it degrading to teach a dog to "shake"?
I feel that it's okay to train a dog to "sit" and "stay" and "come" because that's things that they naturally do. But I feel that it's degrading to treat a dog like a toy and tell it to "shake hands". Dogs don't do that. It's a useless trick taught for the entertainment of humans, it doesn't benefit the dogs at all. Besides, dogs don't even have hands.
And isn't it also degrading to carry dogs around in bags? Like chihuahuas, and other small dogs. They're pets, not accessories.
Actually, you're wrong.
Asking a dog to 'shake a paw' is only asking the dog to do something that comes natural to them, but you're asking them to put their paw where they normally wouldn't; in your hand.
Dogs "paw". This is natural. You're just asking them to give you a paw in your hand, nothing degrading about that. Dogs enjoy it.
As far as carrying a dog in a bag? That is NOT natural, and yes, I feel it is degrading for a dog. Besides degrading, it's unheathy for them physically and mentally.
