What is important to you when looking for a dog trainer?

Certifications? Age? Experience? Having titled dogs in obedience or sport?

Another good question!!! I can tell you that after being in dog training for almost 30 years and having seen and heard almost all of what goes on in this game that certifications are about as usefull as toilet paper, literally!
Anyone can print something out and call themselves whatever they want, and a lot of people do it, all the time!!

Age? Well, age is a relevant thing, but, if I am looking to hire someone to train a dog for me to so something serious, he/she/it better have 15-20 years experience on the subject.
I have seen people claim to be trainers with so many years experience when they are 20 years old and could not possibly have done what they claimed to have, simply because there is not enough years behind them!!

Experience? It depends in what their experience is in. If I am looking to train a police dog, I will not hire a gun dog trainer to do it, it does not make sense!!
Having titled dogs in a sport sounds pretty good, again, depending on what the sport is, but, nothing beats the experience of the real world, the kind you get by having lived it daily, the kind that costs more then just money to acquire!!
That is what I would be looking for if I were interested in a trainer.
Hope I helped!
